How about enrichment class? Will you keep yoiur child away from it for at least 7 days? Heard one popular enrichment centre has two confirm cases during the last week of school holiday.

I think those who have been to infected countries, should stay away from the enrichment center for 7 days. but not sure if the enrichment centers can do make up or refund.

I only know Hans Language Centre wrote to parents to make this offer of fee adjustment. The rest seem to do nothing but to keep a copy of homework for the kids when enquiry or just paste a notice advice them not to come.

I am suspending mine for a month. She is asthmatic, better safe than sorry.

          Hi,
Does your kid's swimming instructor allow you to suspend lessons or do you still have to pay for the lessons?

Mine did not ask me to pay. 🙂

A side question. What preventive measures are your childrens' schools taking to avoid spread of H1N1 within the school compound.

In my daughter's school, they set up a 2nd \"canteen\", to separate the students during recess. And also stagger the recess time, so that not all the students are queuing at the foodstalls at the same time.
My daughter's school had the students' temp. taken and those with higher than 37.6 deg and with cough/sore-throat are asked to go home straight away. The school staggers recess time for different classes and cancels all CCAs. Students go straight to class, no more assembly.

Wonder if it is ok to carry on attending swimming lessons? Parents, will you stop your children's swimming lessons temporarily? The public pools are usually very crowded during weekends. Wonder if there is increase risk of getting the flu bug there.

I am stopping my girl from swimming classes temporary cos is really crowded at the public pool during weekend. esp now some who caught the flu do not have obvious symptons and carry on with their usual life plus there are many irresponsible pple. 😢

                Hi hi,

Me still let my son attend his swimming. It will strength him even though the bug is around. The virus is airborned. Think of it will be more scary when travelling in the packed MRT and all public transport to work and back from work.

The water is disinfected as it contained chlorine and after that, just shower him with dettol soap.

I think it is still safe.

                  swimming shouldn’t be a problem.

                    Hi parents,

I am hanging around the pool everyday. 😉

Stopping the swimming class is one of the immediate response due to the concern about the H1N1 virus. From my experience, majority of the parents are still carrying on with classes. As parents, everyone is definitely concerned about their little ones getting the virus and will try to protect them.

The chlorine does kill germs but it is not immediate. If it is so deadly, imagine what is it doing to our skin and body?

In my opinion, the virus will still be here for the next few years at least. How are we to prevent it from spreading when there could be no symptoms when it is spreading? Even if we isolate our kids from these crowded places, they still need to go to schools and interact with much more kids. When we go out and eat outside, there could also be germs left on the tables by the previous guy before us. How are we to prevent it? As adults, we go out and work and also interact with many more other people, and we can end up being the person who spread it to our little ones even though we keep them from these crowded places. I think if we keep thinking about all these, we will end up being paranoid about alot of things. 😄

The health ministry probably understand these also and thus had been stressing that the virus is relatively mild to assure everyone. There is probably not many ways to eradicate it at the moment and it is a blessing that fatality rate is not that high. H1N1 could possibly become just another common flu strain that we have in the future.

My suggestion would be to keep the kids away from classes if they are sick and try to maintain a high level of hygience. As coaches, we also will monitor and situation and the guidelines from the health ministry and sports council.

Anyway… doesn’t regular swimming build up stamina and better resistance to viruses? Stopping it due to the H1N1 scare may be counter productive.

You're right, unfortunately, my kid seems to catch a cold quite often after swimming. So I am in a dilemma whether to send him swimming in this \"climate\".
