All About Kids' Eye-sight

Miracle Child:
My son, 6 yrs old, just came back with the results of the eye test conducted in his school. The results are 6/19 and 6/9.5 for right and left respectively. He will be referred to for refraction test at the Student Health Clinic.
Anyone know what do these readings translate to i.e. need to wear glasses? what is the degree? Very anxious to know prior to test....
My daughter, 6 years old, was also being referred to the refraction clinic. When I receive the results slip, I am also very curious to know whether she is really shortsighted. So I brought her to the optician and had her eye sight tested by the machine. And true enough, the machine reading came out that she is slightly myopic. So, you can try bringing her to the optician and get her eye sight tested by the machine. Please do not go further until you have visited the refraction clinic. Because in some cases, the children shortsightedness might be temporary.
Today, is my appointment to the refraction clinic. I am keeping my fingers cross that it will be a false alarm. -
I thought Optician canβt prescribed for children under 7. They have to use the prescription from the refraction clinics.
one of the advice that the Ophthalmologist given to me is that after wearing glasses for a while, my girl Astigmatism may corrected but chances she will have short sighted then. -

You are right. Optician are not supposed to prescribed spectacles for children below 7 years old. They will need to have the letter from the refraction clinics. For my case, I just bring my daughter to test her eye sight using the machine. As I had mentioned earlier, I did not go any further.I thought Optician can't prescribed for children under 7. Recently, I just bring my boy to the polyclinic for check and confirm that he short sighted and required to wear glasses even tot the degree is abt 100+. Thinking of going for 2nd opinion. Anyone has any recommendation which specialise is go.
I also hear that there is eye therapy which will help to reduce the degree further . How true is it? Anyone has experience before. -
Bringing my son to the refraction clinic tomorrow. Most likely he will need glasses as I "tested" him by asking him to read words from a distance. Any recommendations from optical shop that provide good range of glasses and services for kids? Thanks.

Are you going to a private refraction clinic? You can check with the clinic if they have some recommended optical shops.
I got some names from the the clinic and I went to Capitol Optical eventually. -

Going to the Health Promotion Board (I think) refraction clinic for students (the one that is referred from school). Anyone been there? Was it able to recommend optical shops? after my girl checkup @ HPB, they actually refer my girl to KKH. I recalled they gave me 3 choices : KKH, NUH and ??
The result from HPB is almost the same as KKH.
Mabe you can get refer letter from HPB.
