Yes. My DS is offered cellist post. He has to source for a cello tutor and I hv to pay for his weekly lessons costing approx $100 per hr. The cello will be lent to him for 4 years though. However, some seniors told him that they buy their own instruments to avoid lugging the bulky instrument to n from school. Apparently, those who are taking double bass classes are subsidized. What instrument is ur DS learning?

My DS is also offered Cello. So did you get the tutor from one of the list of music centres recommended or you go to other music centre? Do you attend lesson at the music centre or does the tutor visit your home?
I have not enrolled him for lesson yet? Are they supposed to start lesson asap?

Sandradee, sorry for late reply. I didn't see ur questions till today.

My son has gone for his 3rd cello lesson at tanglewood music school located at fusionopolis because of location (5 min from my place), flexibility in booking lesson timeslots and professionalism. DS is pleased with his Armenian teacher so far. School charges him $45 per 30 mins. He has been advised by staff at the school to start with 30min sessions for now.

DS also mentioned tt the RISE conductor is arranging for those new cellists who hv not found a teacher yet to hv lessons in school, probably on Fridays, with an external teacher, one on one basis, 45 min sessions. No clue on cost yet. DS will stick to tanglewood.

And Congratulations to class of 2010 for doing so well in A levels!

                  You can find 2009 cohort's A level results here: http://www.ri.edu.sg/bookshelf/2010_Institution_Report_Section1_web.swf (Page 12)

                  Compare with 2010 cohort: http://www.ri.edu.sg/files/RI_2010_A-Level_Result_Release.pdf

                  9 distinctions: 2 students (2009), 3 students (2010) (almost the same...)
8 distinctions: 84 students (2009), 73 students (2010). In the 2010 slides, 8 distinctions and above are listed as 76, so we have to deduct the 3 students with 9 distinctions. Drop of 10 students from 2009.
7 distinctions: 217 students (2009), 169 students (2010). In the 2010 slides, 7 distinctions and above are listed as 245, so we have to deduct the 76 students with 8 and 9 distinctions. Drop of 48 students from 20009.
                  6 distinctions: 303 students (2009), 261 students (2010). Drop of 42 students.

Results are still good, but it has gone down from 2009...

The 2010 scores doesn’t seem to be cumulative, like the 2009’s. The best way is to clarify with the ri communications dept, since the 2010 results are emailed to all the parents of ri pupils.

the results presented are accumulative, else the results will be REALLY impressive...

...because the total quota exceeds the total number of rafflesians for that batch. 😃 Total cohort for 1 batch is about 1200 (to 1300)

My DS is now in Yr 1. He is just an av student, so I am quite concerned if he can get to study Pure Science when they stream classes in Yr 2.

Does anybody knows how many Science and Arts classes there are in Yr 3 in RI?
