2011 PSLE Discussions and Strategy

Mum1113:
Here is the email replied from DS's Chinese Teacher, I was asking if the students need to score > 70 in order to sit for PSLE's HMT:
Mine was told if HMT does not meet minimum scores during CA1, kids cant' take the actual exams during PSLE.
In CFS, we believe in building up the long term interest for Chinese in our children and we do not have the policy that you stated.
In fact, you may wish to know that our number of HCL classes have been increasing over the past few years. With our kind of numbers, there will of course be people who will not perform that well for HCL, but we believe in grooming the future of our nation, instead of simply shoring up brilliant statistics for the school.

Actually it is true, when come to their favourite subjects, they will excel and want to best perform yaa
Maths is always his favourite subject. But not Science, CL and HMT. I believe your DS also do pretty well in his CA1, esp Maths.
On the other side of the coin, only if all the subjects they love, then do well, we parents can qiao-jiao , shake leg right ... :rotflmao: -
Funx3:
will :callme: you when enjoy fuzzy drinks...on the House ...haha :snuggles:
Even If Not Squeeze in,
It is Cause for Celebration with Fuzzy Drink -liao!
:celebrate: :celebrate: -

It is very encouraging from your school's perspective, it drives the students' desire to learn CL more, and for late boomers, they can continue to excel just maybe take a little longer to prove it on their marks only.. :goodpost:

DS as usual came back with unsatisfactory EL and CL results. A handful of mistakes due to carelessness, but mostly overall can see language foundation not exactly there.
Anyone has any effective way to try to improve languages from now till PSLE? I know time is short and it is not easy to see results for languages in a short time, but I am hoping for some tips on how to improve certain sections of the EL or CL paper to assist to pull up the overall marks. Thanks in advance for the sharing. -
Pen88n:
Is your son in P5? If so, maybe can try memorizing compo using digital audio tracks+ glossary list+ printed text? My son's compo grades went from 8/20 to 16/20 from November 2010 till now. His teacher can't believe it. He has memorized 19 compos and writes an average of 1 compo in 2 weeks.DS as usual came back with unsatisfactory EL and CL results. I also get grandma to read 3 newspaper articles with him everyday. -
Hi Pen88n,
Go through the paper and find out which section he is weaker and zoom in from there.
For mcq kind of questions, practise more.As it it , practise make perfect.
Cheers

Hi Pen88n,
Yes, I agreed with Leanne. This is how I have been working on my DS and DD.
If you are unsure where and how to start with, what I normally do is have a discussion with the teachers and see how he/she going to work on those area he is weak on. Then you can also do your part as a parent to re-enforce it. I always believe it takes 2 hands to clap. (teachers and parents)
Hopes that helps.
