Hi, I m new here. My child just started the ICR prelim program.

I seem to be hearing parents comment that the children are not able to communicate what they ve learned in class. I have the same issue. I would like to know if your children are attending this same level too. The reason is because I ve heard their actual 1-year ICR program is good, and I would like my child to attend that. But at the prelim level, the cirriculum seems less structured (reason why a lot of children can t tell us what they do in class) and promotion to the next level totally subjective on the part of the teacher.

          Hi,

Basically at this stage, the teacher will engage the children to interact and during lesson might go through book like extract of words. It is less structure because different student at different standard. Normally for kids at this level is still young. Even my gal also face the same problem when she is preliminary. Once the children gain the understanding or the first, last and middle sound and how to read the 26 alphabets.

The teacher will assess them when they feel the kids are ready.

Hi monster mummy, are u a teacher at ICR? May I ask what is the average length of time a child spends at the prelim level before going onto the actual ICR?

My child can read and sound all the alphabets. She s ok with the first and last sounds too.

              Monster Mummy:

              Hi DC Mummy,
You can actually inform the staff that you will need to talk to the teacher. I have face same situation as yours previously. My gal took one year to complete. Most of PRP, the children must be able to know first, middle and last sound and able to differentiate. If you think that the child is ready, you can ask the teacher. for 4 years old, some child still weak in motor even my ds also still weak in his motor skill.
Thanks, Monster Mummy. Yap, I will check with the teacher in next lesson. DS knows the first, middle and last sound. Most of the time, he is able to blend the words except those sight words that can't use phonics method to decode.

At this age 4 yo, I consider him reading fairly well. He enjoys his PRP lessons partly becos it doesn't need to write much, just tracing the letters in workbook. If moving him to ICR level that requires more writing, am afraid he may not be ready and puts him off in learning.

Moving in the ICR level, is more blending and learn to read. Everyweek, they are covered for the spelling. If he is picking it up fast, is considered quite good but don't pressurised too much. As our ultimate aim is to ensure the kids are bound with the reading skill before they attend school and able to read story on their own.

hi, i hv just brought my son for a assessment @ ICR. he has difficulty in his words blend & sounds so the assessor said to place him at TCS level.

The thing is the fees are $496/3 months excluding registration fees, materials & refrundable deposit. May i ask is this fees worth to pay?

so far i 've read alot of review/comments, some positive some negatives. any advice? having some headache here. he will be entering pri 1 next yr & i’m worried he may not be able to pick up.

thinking of enrolling my daughter too but then the fees wld be 2x. gulp!

can someone advise what is included in the trial assessment for TCS?

what does the level below TCS teach in class? and what does TCS cover in class?

The class more or less is like the learn and play to my knowledge and mastering the sound of 26 alphabets.
