She wont be able to tell for sure how many applicants there are in earlier phases and how many applicants whose parents are grass-root leaders contenting with the PV.

Yes I know that PV does not guarantee places in school. However, the principal should already know how many kids' parents have completed 40 hours of PV, and she should know how many places are available for in phase 2B. So she should be able to tell me whether balloting is needed right ?
Tamarind, tankee is rite. The principal wont be able to tell u whether balloting is required or not at this point of time.
What u can do is to ask the principal how many phase 1 students are there this year. Then u gauge/estimate yourself the phase 2A1 and 2A2 numbers based on past years' statistics. After that you divide the places left by 2 to find out number of vacancies available for 2B. U can also ask the principal how many PVs has completed 40 hrs. Then estimate the number of grassroot leaders based on past years stats again too see whether u need balloting or not. Note that WG has 30 places less this year compared to last year. -

If you had read through various topics in this forum, you will notice that some parents are PV for multiple schools. So even if the principal knows how many PVs the school has, it doesn't mean all PVs will be applying for a place.

Since the number of places available for 2B is half of what's left over after 2A2, the principal, as well as yourself, wouldn't know how many places would be available for 2B any earlier. The best you can do is to guesstimate based on past statistics.

I also know that there are parents doing PV for multiple schools. I wrote earlier in this thread that there are parents who applied for PV at both West Grove and Rulang.

But since we are talking about West Grove, a neighbourhood school, not branded schools like Nanyang, etc, I don't expect any parent to give up after completing 40 hours of PV. Who is so free ? West Grove is not a \"die die must get in\" school like Nanyang.
Anyway I am not expecting a definite answer as to whether balloting is required. I thought they should be able to estimate since they already know how many parents completed PV.
I read in this forum that if selected by Rulang to PV, then the kid is more or less guaranteed a space. Because Rulang does not take in more PVs than they have spaces for. -

Tamarind, WG refused to tell u how many PVs who completed 40hrs and thus eligible for 2B? Last yr, my dd's school gave us a list of all parents who completed 40 hrs so we were able to gauge our chances. Still, we were anxious as we never know how many grassroots leaders will turn up to vie with us.I also know that there are parents doing PV for multiple schools. I only managed to talk to the staff at the admin office, not the principal. The staff did not know how many parents completed the 40 hours. That's why I am trying to find out from other parents who may have managed to speak with the principal

Hi tamarind, Rulang doesn't guarantee even after 40 hours PV but they have a strict PV selection process. Meaning they limit the number of PV they accept. This year's stat I heard that the final count was 257 PV APPLICANTS, all will be interviewed and finally only 40 - 50 PVs selected.
I guess you could say that the chances for these 40 - 50 selected PVs are higher than if they would just allow all 257 PVs to volunteer and ballot during Phase 2B.
As for how many spaces and whether all PV will get a place, they can't and will not commit as the # from Community Leaders is unknown... (that's what the school staff kept repeating..)

You may ask the school how many PVās WGPS had accepted last year? Assuming all had completed PV would turn up during enrollment.

From there, you can estimate yr chance to enter in Phase 2B or Phase 2C.
I guess most of the parent that did PV had done enough research where do as PV would have high chance being accepted in Phase 2B. Unless that is a school affiliated with church, clans & together from PV & Grassroot leaders then would really depend on luck.
