I do have several worries concerning SST's methods but I am open to new ways of doing things. Maybe it's too early to comment whether things will be okay or not. But I am very keen to learn alongside my son. Ha ha...I'm also getting another round of secondary school education and it's more exciting than before.[/quote]Which kids in secondary school doesn't use laptop extensively?
My friend's DD is there. Having a TORRID time becos no books. They use the laptop extensively so kids are usually into gaming. Believe he could be addicted to the games.Hotspurs68:

Hi - My son is in P6 this year. We are considering applying for SST DSA. Are there parents in this forum whose kids are in this school or who took part in the DSA exercise. Would very much like to get in touch with them.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanks -

Hi, I received your pm. I think most of what I know is found somewhere in this thread and in SST web.Hi - My son is in P6 this year. We are considering applying for SST DSA. Regards DSA, my son did not prepare for the selection test. After clearing the test, he was invited to a half day \"camp\" and tested on writing and practical (kind of problem solving on a given scenerio, working in a group) . He has to submit photocopy of school results and any CCA achievements then.
So far, he enjoys going to the school. School work is more project based and require them to work in groups. During the e-learning week, he has been out almost every day to meet different groups of classmates on Science, ADMT and I&E projects.
During the badge ceremony, I heard that about 1200 children applied for the 200 vacancies. Someone told me the PSLE mean score is around 240. But if you have a confirmed order, they will accept the student as long as he/she qualify for express ie PSLE score 200.
You may want to attend their open house first and see if more of your questions can be answered. They have a set of selection criterias, not sure the weightage of academic achievements. The selection test is open for all, so give it a try.

Thanks Kaka. That was helpful. I will definitely attend the open house. It is good to know that they don’t pre-screen for the entrance test - I was afraid that might be based on results as well.
1 in 6 sounds like a tough shot - but one worth trying for.
Good to know you son is enjoying activities as well. I find my son’s enthusiam to do any e-learning h/w, any projects involving research, and even simple stuff like h/w posted on his class blog excites him :-).
Thanks again for your prompt response. -

What CCA achievements in Pri sch did your son have? Sorry to be so specific, just want to know what's the chances for my son coz although he is keen, he has not really been very outstanding in his CCAs, or join any technology-related CCA eg Robotic ...
Also, his Sci results had so far been quite good ie >80 but the recent SA1 was not, so kind of worry that will affect his chance ....
Thanks. -

My Ds was in Scouts because I asked him to. He went for some camps and had a few badges but nothing outstanding. If given a choice then, he would have join Media or Robotics but I had wanted him to build social and survival skills.
Hi Kaka,
What CCA achievements in Pri sch did your son have?
I think as long as there is interest/passion in Science and Technology, there is a chance.

Hi!
Anyone know how new is SST? What's the cirriculum like?
Got a P5 boy so just started to think about Sec schools for him after PSLE next year. But my son's grades aren't so good even though he is above his school's average scores and teachers say he's doing ok. Very worrying!
