nah...primary school is enough.Hi mummies,
i'm new here. may i know if my hubby used to study acs(primary) only, does it mean my son will be in phase 2A2 when register for P1? i understand from a friend that a parent needs to be in acs(p), acs(sec) in order to meet the criteria? appreciate ur advise. thank you! -
This is excruciating
For sake of ACJS we are really cracking our heads!
I have 2 children- an older daughter and a son. We are really caught in the middle. Being within 1 KM of MGS and are members of the Methodist church, getting my daughter to MGS should not be of a problem.. but it is my son who will be going into Primary 1 that will be a headache.. if we wish to send him to ACJS, it would mean we have to shift 1km beside the school, but we are really only 2.5km away!
If we act now and shift next to ACJS which is also beside SCGS, that would mean we would have to apply to SCGS as a PV which is another risk altogether because PV spaces are limited to selected few with desired skill sets.
What would mummies and daddies here do? -

acsj is near to scgs but definitely not beside scgs. that would be acsp. This is excruciating

if you live within 1km of scgs, you probably would be out of the within 1km range of acsj. -

I think you should take one child at a time. Since your daughter is older, you should focus on getting her into a good school first, before considering shifting for your younger boy. This is excruciating

Having said that, looking at past stats, you have a better chance of getting into SCGS at Phase 2B than at MGS, assuming you are within 1km. The difficult part is getting accepted into SCGS as a PV.
Why don't you try getting in as a PV at SCGS first. If you are accepted, then it's a no-brainer to shift to within 1km of both SCGS and ACPS, which would give you a good shot at both schools for your kids. Both are excellent schools in my opinion, and with affiliated secondary schools.
But if you don't get accepted as a PV, then you'll have to consider between MGS and SCGS. Past stats suggest that being within 1km of SCGS at Phase 2C is still a better shot than MGS at Phase 2B.
When is your DD registering? Best of luck! -
That is a very good piece of advice from citygirl.

Agree with citygirl's advice. MGS for you is more certain since 1km at Phase 2B has high chance of acceptance and is better since it has affliation all the way to JC (ACJC). MGS has excellent PSLE results (I believe it was significantly better than RGPS for 2010).This is excruciating

After getting DD into MGS, you could consider moving next to ACSJunior (one at Winstedt Rd, not at Barker Rd). Based on the published 2009/2010 PSLE results, I estimate ACSJunior and ACSPrimary (at Barker Rd) to have about the same mean T-scores for 2009, and ACSJ about 4 pts better for 2010. This despite ACSP being the school with GEP classes. If your DS is offered the GEP, can always move to ACSP.
It is harder to get into ACSP than ACSJ because long ago when the fathers were studying there were about 10 classes (450?) at ACSP and only 4 classes (180?) at ACSJ. From kiasuparents, 2011 P1 intakes are 240 for ACSP and 270 for ACSJ. -
Hi, I am living within 1km of ACPS and 1-2km from ACJS. Intend to apply for phase 2C. In 2010, there was balloting for ACPS within 1km (APP 158%) and ACJS 1-2km (APP 119%). So for last year, it was balloting chances were better for ACJS 1-2km compared to ACPS less than 1km!
Of course, there is no way of knowing what will happen this year.
I read a few posts that some parents station at both schools and monitor the situation at 4pm on the last day to decide which to apply? I donβt understand how this works.
Any advice would be gratefully received. Thanks! -

I haven't done this myself but I believe the process is like this - you register first at one school, eg. ACPS. On the last day, about an hour before registration closes, one parent should be at ACPS and the other at ACJS. The one at ACJS will need to be carrying all the documents for registration (don't need the docs for withdrawing).Hi, I am living within 1km of ACPS and 1-2km from ACJS. Intend to apply for phase 2C. If the situation at ACJS seems more favourable, the parent at ACPS withdraws and the parent at ACJS registers immediately after. If ACPS remains favourable, no action is needed.
Just need to make sure that you allow sufficient time to withdraw and register, so don't leave your decision to the very last minute. I also believe that in the case of ACS, there are many parents who are in the same situation as you, due to the priximity of both schools. So be prepared for a lot of changes in the last hour. My sister, who lived within 1-2km of a popular school in Bt Timah, went from confirmed place to ballot to no chance of balloting in the space of an afternoon, due to the flurry of last-minute registrations.
Will you be registering this year? Both ACS schools are wonderful, in my opinion, so I do hope you get your DS in. Best of luck!

It could also mean that if you withdraw and register at another school (say School B ) and A LOT of other parents have the same idea as you and all rush to register at School B thinking that their chances are good, that balloting may occur at School B too. Tricky!
