Comparing Pre-school English Reading and Phonics Enrichment

Currently i did enroll my daugther with Zoo Phonic @ Jurong, wow she was excited doing her phonic reading & colouring. I guess she must be enjoy & happy with it. Moreover she is looking forward for the next lesson.

Hi All,
My son is 6, in K2, is attending speech & drama class (does not teach phonics) in Kindergarten since 4 but has never attended any phonics classes. We have the habit of reading to him since he was a babe. He can read independently ( level 3 books now ) and has no problems in pronouncing words since he was 5. I had asked his S&Drama class teacher if he needs to attend Phonics since he can read. She advised NO.
I see all the discussions about Phonics lessons and wonder if it is necessary to send my son to one too before he goes to P1? -

Wow... all these glowing accolades of ZooPhonics make me very itchy... but the thought of all the re-scheduling and time spent... no... no... must resist.... arrhhh!
It's so hard to be a KSP

Anyone has experience in relation to "Letterland"? My son’s childcare uses that

Hi parents,
I know there are various posts seperately on "I can read" and "zoophonic". Both seems to be good at teaching phonics, with the ability to teach the child to read. Do any parents know what’s the difference btw the two? which is better? my girls are 6 and 3 yrs old, and both are behind their peers as they are overseas so have not been through the Singapore education system.
many thanks for your comments. -
Hi Ros,
I am not familiar with Zoophonic. But my son attended I can read for the last 2 years. It was good initially. My son looked forward to going for his classes. But after a while, they kept changing teachers… i have lost count and hence finally stopped his lessons this year. After one of his particularly good teacher left, I didn’t find him improving very much with the rest of the teachers. So maybe you should talk to the centre manager regarding their teacher’s turnover before deciding. Frequent changing of teachers can be very disruptive. -
My son is 7yrs old attending Pri 1 now. I have sent him to Zoo phonics since he was 5 at Thomson branch and stop before end last year. So he has actually attended 2 years of Zoo phonics.
From what I gather, Zoo phonics is very focused on phonics and has make learning phonics very fun. My son strength on phonics is now very strong, able to pronounce difficult words and this has make his spelling learning so much easlier in Pri 1. However, zoo phonics is mainly on vocab but not grammer. Now my son kind of struggle with his grammer usuage, sentence structure, word orders, etc. -

JJJ,
I have a problem with my child's grammar too. I think it is because of influence by the maid. She is solely taken care off by my maid and unfortunately, my maid has passed her poor grammar to my daughter. -

Yes, I agreed. External factors like maid's language, TV programme which speak a lot of Singlish and of course we unconsciously speak broken English without knowing it. They are like a sponge, absorbing all these into them.JJJ:
