seems like not much ppl from BB in this forum

I think there are quite a number but maybe this thread isn't as happening cos we're not registering this year? And registration in schs in BB quite straightforward, i.e., no \"dark horses\" this year.

so most will be looking @ Keming. Princess E, St Anthony, from the result of the poll. hmmmm

Think so too, I also from BB, but not really following this thread as had already gotten my boys into SAPS last year under phase 2C. The balloting process (within 1 km) was so tense. But situation this year should be better as they have 84 places left for Phase 2C compared to 60+ last year.

Hi… I am asking this question on behalf of my sis-in-law (SIL)…

Her son is registering for P1 this year and their choice is St Anthony’s Primary School (SAPS). And thier house is within 1km.

However, my SIL’s concern is SAPS is a Catholic School but their religion is Taoism. She is afraid that her son may be required to study Bible or may even convert to Catholic.

Does anyone know that SAPS 'll lead or influence kids to become Catholic?

                Thanks.

SAPS allows parents to opt their children out of Bible Studies. As for influence, it will be there as the children will need to say prayers everyday after recess. So, it really depends on individual kids.

When they say prayers, just ask the child to bow the head too but keep silent to show consideration and respect. The sch will not force the child to say prayers too. I was from an Anglican JC but not a Christian so that is what I did every morning at assembly. Every Friday, there was a period dedicated to religion too. I just stayed with my class and was allowed to remain quiet without joining in their songs, etc. I do know of a few students whose parents wrote letters for them to be excused from this period, and they would go to another room to do self-study under the supervision of a teacher.

no offence, but this crude phrase suddenly came into my mind.....

machiam like....I want chicken rice, but dun want the chicken :X

Religion is personal thingy, even for kids, parent should play a guiding role, and not insist on what's what.

though been said, even religious school will not enforce on student following activities which are the parent does not consent.

Both my neighbour's kids are in SAPS & they are conicidentally, Taoist.
