Chief: i got busted from KHS, now seeking your advice for phase 2c.

St Stephan (1-2km) or Ngee Ann Primary, check the web on both school academic preformance, ngee ann seems to be a more rounded. And DH prefers son to get into mixed school…This is a headache for me now.

I'm sorry to hear that, June.

St Stephen has the added advantage of being affiliated to SJI for Secondary education, which some prefer. Ngee Ann is indeed a good and well-rounded school, and affiliated to Ngee Ann Secondary.

If it is up to me, I'll choose the one which is nearer to me, ie. less than 1km.

No problem, June. The decision is difficult because we believe it has significant impact on our children's education, which of course also impacts their future. The presence of a teacher that your child likes and respects in the school can make all the difference in determining how he will view his learning journey. We parents think, perhaps rather shallowly, that the \"elite\" schools have better teachers because they churn out national-level top students, that's why we are so eager to register with them. But in the end, the question really depends on the chemistry between the student and the teacher. We also know, through our own experience, that people peak at different times, and performance in Primary school need not necessarily determine performance in the 3 or 4 other major stages of schooling. You will find, as your child enters into P1, that the real challenges remain ahead of you.

Chief: This sounds like great challenges ahead of me wor...I strongly agree w you that good teachers does make a difference in determing the learning curve of the child, however the dilemma for us parents in getting kids into elite school as we have the belief the teachers are \"pressure\" in producing good results students and thus the choice.

Primary school is the foundation of a child's education ahead, as parents we hope we can help into securing the first step however for secondary this will purely depends on how diligent the child is to land him into a good secondary school.

My son is very strong in his chinese and thus the thought of securing him into a SAP school, the sad thing is that I fail to get him in one. I think next week willl be another challenging week for me again πŸ™

Mine's the opposite... we had to keep patching holes in his Chinese ever since P3. My wife is pretty much full time teaching him Chinese and Chinese-only. The only good thing is that we didn't have to spend much time on his other subjects (my responsibility πŸ˜‰ actually). We learnt our lesson and have my daughter well prepared in Chinese since she was 3yo.

Good luck for your attempt for St Stephen's next week!
