lovingmum:
Thanks. Think my gal has not gotten back the last LA paper taken on the day b4 the date of the parent teacher meeting. She mentioned that her teacher will only return it when the new term begins... She thought the score for this paper will only be included in next term's LA score. not sure if this is correct. But I expect them to bring them their progress report book these few days......
ya, my gal also mentioned something like it (LA) might not be included in this term.
i think all the subjects grades were known except LA and maths.....
(or isit science ??, nowadays, i din bother to ask her much, and also not as anxious, unlike psle yr.....keke) -
same here. I have my hands full guiding the younger one and am not so involved in her studies now…
but I have a qn to ask, hope you can help me… how does your child prepare history and geography? do her teachers guide the class well? so as suggests them to read papers, look out guide books, go on line to read up? I am just wondering how to score these 2 subjects without really putting in too much effort…
thanks once again for your help -

yes, lovingmum, i understand what u meant by yr hands are full with the younger boy, same here. I have my hands full guiding the younger one and am not so involved in her studies now...

if i were u, i would also do the same thing,
since now they are in sec sch, nothing much we can help along, except some maths and science topics.
for history, sad to say that....No......
the teacher din teach/guide them along much,
often seen her emailing the teacher-in-charge to clarify this and that on assignments given.
fortunately, the teacher is helpful and patient.
he is likley to be seen online on the day b4 assignment hand-in or test dates,
to answer their queries,
i understand that they (yr gal and mine) are having diff teachers,
so does the above happen ??
those history guidebooks avail in popular,
gal said that she dun find them useful as not really relevant to what they are doing.
for geog, i din hear her complaints, except the heavy content of memorising
so i assume she is comfortable with it.
btw, what'll be yr gal subj combi selection ?? -
So far she seems to be doing better in sciences than her humanities so i thought she should go for triple science. but she says she does not really like physics so think likely to take both humanities and 2 sciences. she will definitely take literature cos she likes it. so it is between history and geography.
will let her decide herself. afterall, she is the one studying!
i spoke to her history teacher on Parent teacher meeting day. he does not appear very approachable…stern looking type. Probably why she did not really communicate much with him outside school hours… maybe she should do that more and clarify any of her doubts. so did not do very well in this subject cos she is not giving what the teacher wants in her work. anyway, told her to work this out with the teacher herself. Just thought of getting her books or resource materials, at most what I can do to help.
As for geography, I reckoned she is not memorising enough. lack of content i think. will see if she changes her mind for subject combinations later. Yours going for triple science? -

if u come across any useful books avail for hist or geog, pl do let me know....
becos those avail in popular, she said that wasn't of much relevance. -
sure. will share if i find anything useful out there… but i am more inclined to gain knowledge thru reading newspapers but not sure if useful or not…

ok, thks........
ya, newspapers is a good source of contents for knowledge,
but the bigger prob is the essay writing skills which they need to acquire.....
most of them lacking in........ -
Hi Augmum/lovingmom, do you know what is the average GPA for the whole Y2 level? Forgotten to ask during the PTM. Thanks.
-
wi11anna:
sorri wi11anna, i do not know abt the ave GPA for yr 2. (btw, i din attend the PTM)
Hi Augmum/lovingmom, do you know what is the average GPA for the whole Y2 level? Forgotten to ask during the PTM. Thanks.
but some info....
gal's classmate who has gotten GPA of 3.06 is indicated to be in \"Top 75%\"
in the whole cohort as stated in her report bk.
so the ave GPA shd be more than 3.06 (2 A + 4 B) -
So to find the median, one should find a student whose GPA is in 50th percentile.
The median shouldn't be too far off from the mean I suppose.
