Papers are there to show that the teacher has been through musical training and SHOULD know what he/she is doing, but teaching comes with experience and the ability to communicate. That's why not all professional performers know how to teach. Most will give masterclasses where the situation is just a one-off, and even then some are hopeless at it.

Smurf28, 45 mins lesson? Do you travel to the teacher or does the teacher come to your place? If you travel, then for a dip holder that is a tad on the ex side unless he/she is very experience.

      hi jce,

mine is Per lesson 45mins.the teacher come to my hse

For me, I actually approached Gratify - Chris Gan. She sourced for my kids' current piano teachers and quite good so far.

They don't charge the parents but the piano teachers need to pay them 1/2 month pay for the recommendation.

You can contact Chris at 82987978. I think I got the contact from some KSP ads I think.

I was specific in my request eg. I don't want ex-music teachers from xxx schools as I feel the standard is not so good. She found us a good piano teacher doing her masters. But unfortunately, the teacher only taught for a month. I now go for full time teachers and the current 2 teachers we have been around for several months and building up rapport with my kids.
        Hi,

Anyone tried Gratify or any more feedback?

        Thanks.

Just to share that the piano teachers that are realy good they normally do not travel to your place. They expect the students to travel to their place. At times they are really full house with good business.

Maybe these are really the solid teachers with many years of teaching experience at home or at the schools. Currently I'm also paying around $50/hour for beginner level

When I took my diploma 2 years ago, my teacher charged me $90/hr, and I went to her house.

              Hi,

I'm looking for a piano teacher for my 6 yrs old DD who is in JXC now.
Contacted a few current Yamaha piano teachers, they all quote $180 per month for Beginner/Grade 1, 45mins lesson and follows Yamaha school calender-so only 44 lessons per year.

 Didn't check abt their qualifications  Is the above rate reasonable for home based lessons? Anyone knows what's the min/usual qualifications for Yamaha teachers?

              Thanks!

$180 per month, 44 lessons per year is the norm nowadays. Since the teacher is travelling to your place, price is ok provided she is a good teacher. Yamaha teachers min is grade 8.

                  Hi jce,

Thanks for the info.... 😄 Glad to know that's the norm!
thought that $180 per month is for teachers who are more qualified....so a teacher with Grade 8 also charge $180 for beginners?

Is it the norm to collect fees at the beginning of the month for home lessons? Heard there're teachers who \"disappear\" after 1-2 lessons..... Concern cos only know the teacher by Ms X, and only have her hp no

I charge about there for beginners (and am more qualified than what you mentioned above). So I guess it all boils down to individual teachers. No governing body. Having said that, the teacher you mentioned travels to your place whereas I don’t. So part of your payment goes into the traveling expenses and traveling time.

I collect fees at the beginning of the month too though there are some who pay at the end of the month since they are use to that with the previous teacher. Again, this boils down to the individual teachers.
