i see, thanks 😄 agree on the strong foundation of math. can see improvement for my dd in span of 2 weeks. but stil unsure of the committment... :? dun want end up in fighting session every night b4 bedtime

Speaking of fighting session, mine super 'nua' when comes to doing worksheets. Ups & downs, mostly downs though, must nag nag nag, chase after her to complete worksheets.

On one hand, I want to leave it to her own pace, don't pressure her. On the other hand, if really at her own pace, one week she would probably complete only 5 pages, the outstanding worksheets get piled up in lightning speed!

Must strike a balance somewhere. I told teacher to assign 3-5 pages a day only, 10 pages a day is mission impossible for her

Surprisingly, despites all these struggles to complete worksheets, she loves Kumon. I think she enjoys the glory of going on stage to collect her Kumon award every year 😐

I am new to Kumon. Some say there is character devt value. Though Kumon started with Math, I thought that the English language can be self-taught and the language knowledge shouldn’t be "categorized" into different years. So, I feel that it is fine if the child learns beyond his age or different from school curriculum.

Can parents of Kumon English kids are to shed some light?

          Thank you.

haha, so funny... so she finished kumon already or stil continuing? think my dd also very \"nua\". always complain \"mama, i so tired\" 😛 and :stupid: its really not easy (for the parents) but i guess for the kids, they also achieve sense of accomplishment :celebrate:

              Hi,

My kids (K2) started Kumon maths from Jan and have moved up almost 5 levels in that time. I find that their maths ability has improved and I have also signed them for the free trial in English and will continue that also as I feel my DD needs more coaching in the language.

In retrospect I wish I had started it earlier (when they were in K1), may have more benefits.

better late than never! its great that u r seeing benefits of the programme b4 starting pri 1. but i think parents cannot run away from providing some guidance cos as sleepy said, the MOE syllabus is quite different. i believe she’s talking about the problem sums.

Thanks foreverj. I know the P1 will bring other problems, esp for word problems. But hopefull the foundation will be strong and so they should be able to cope with it.

                    Hi Vividlaurel,

Wow...seems that your kids are enjoying their kumon lessons. You mentioned about wishing to start them earlier to gain more benefits...so in your point of view, what will be a suitable age to start and what can I do as a parent (besides practising on his fine motor skills) to prepare my son to be ready for the classes?

                    And to Foreverj,
Long time no hear!! How's your dd doing? Still coping well in Kumon? HOw much time do you need to spend doing those worksheets with her everyday? i thot it seems that the children really need to stay focus for quite a while in order to work through the worksheets...is that right?

                      Hi shiningstar,

I think K1 is the best time to start. When my kids first started level 7 (the lowest I think), it was just counting dots which K1 can do. It used to take just 2-3 minutes a day which is just right for a child of 4-5.

Other than that if your child is in Nursery or K1, I would say let him enjoy life atleast till K2. After all, once they reach primary school, we kiasu parents won't let them be in peace.

ok la, everyday is not easy making her sit down to do the worksheets, mainly becos its so boring. already told the instructor to reduce the 20 pg (10 pieces) down to 10 pg (5 pcs) and she stil will wonder around, dance, do something, everything but her hw :stupid: so end up can take 15 to 20 min! and she'll complain abt her hands tired etc etc. to a certain extent, i agree becos she needs to control her hands to write the numbers properly. but she could finish those colour, circle, cross out kind of exercises with ease. so make me wonder sometimes whether really true? 😐

i see how long we can persevere for this. hopefully once we get thru the numbers thru 220, it wil get better and more interesting? 🙏
