Hi All!

Thank you all for the congratulations!

We arrived at about 8.55 am, and were directed to the AVA room. Many parents were already there, some with their children, waiting for the balloting to commence.

The principal started with a briefing of the school. Her main points are:
• 1. There is no such thing as bad school in Singapore. We only have good schools. With curriculum centralised by MOE, how can there by bad schools? The difference is the focus of the school.
2. RMPS is focussed in IT. They conduct inhouse IT classes, as opposed to getting external vendors. To support the inhouse IT classes, they have employed two IT professionals, based full-time in the school. All students will go through IT lessons conducted by the inhouse IT professionals. By the time a child goes to secondary school, he/she will have learned six (6) different types of softwares.
3. The pincipal emphasised a lot on punctuality. She expects all parents to inculcate this value in their children. If any child were to play truant or late in submitting homework, she would not scold the child. She would call up the parents and \"reprimand\" the parents.
4. They spearheaded the compulsory CCAs from Primary 1. This is the reason why traffic along Lower Delta Road is quite bad on Friday because Zhangde and CHIJ Kellock have also followed suit.
5. The school has compulsory camp from Primary 1. All Primary 6 students go for overseas camp.
6. RMPS is not a future school. However, all the classrooms are equipped with electronic whiteboards.
7. Parents who want their child to be in single gender class have to inform the school about this request. The school is able to make such an arrangement.
•
That's all I can remember, for now. I will add on if I recall any more. In short, the principal emphasised, several times, on the need for punctuality. She told parents that life in RMPS would not be easy, and for parents who do not want their children to go through it, please withdraw their children.

The balloting started after the 15-minute briefing. The names and numbers of the children were printed in pieces of paper, and parents were encouraged to check to ensure that all numbers were in order.

There were 96 applicants, including two pairs of twins. One pair of the twins got in. My son was the 19th or 20th number to be called out (you see? I was so anxious that I couldn't remember!). The whole balloting was over in half an hour.

One of the unsuccessful parents was very distraught. I overheard her telling the principal that she stayed just next to the school and she could practically \"throw\" her son to the school from her flat.

Hi Raynreg/Rena!

Thank you very much! Looking forward to exchanging papers with you in future! 😉

hi qms, CONGRATULATIONS…better than ‘tio beh pio’?

I liked point 3 where the principal said she’ll scold the parents (not the students) - think this is particularly true for younger children.

Hi hquek!

Thanks.

In addition to scolding parents, the principal also prepared the parents psychologically that there would be frequent home visits by school representatives!

Hi QMS,

Seem like the Principal behaves like a Commanding Officer showing the power of Radin Mas Primary? Very different where I saw her during my PV oridentation day. You have any info on the following :

(1)What are the 6 softwares the child would learn? Have Certificate of Achievement?

(2) Reprimand parents? Wow Principal so busy already still can make tel call?

(3) Compulsory camp P1? Camp at where? 7days 6 night at Mount Faber or Telok Blangah Hills?

(4) Single gender class? Wow so good but what are the pros & cons?

(5) She told parents that life in RMPS would not be easy, and for parents who do not want their children to go through it, please withdraw their children.

Wow already registered already a place still ask people to withdraw? Just have to physically & mentally prepared loh.

Do also includes me in the test/exam paper exchange program.

Hi Titank!

Here are the answers to your questions.

titank:
(1)What are the 6 softwares the child would learn? Have Certificate of Achievement?
She didn't mention which 6 softwares, but she indicated that for parents with presentations to make, and if they were too tired, they could let their children help out. By P3, the children would have learnt MS Powerpoint.
titank:
(2) Reprimand parents? Wow Principal so busy already still can make tel call?
Don't be surprised if the principal really calls.

To hquek, I think it's only for the recalcitrant. It remains to be seen whether the principal actually carries out what she claimed she would do. Perhaps she only wanted to give parents \"Xia Ma Wei\"?
titank:
(3) Compulsory camp P1? Camp at where? 7days 6 night at Mount Faber or Telok Blangah Hills?
Yes, compulsory camp even for the P1s. Not too sure where. The principal only mentioned the P6. For 2006, the P6 students went to Malaysia. For 2007 and 2008, the students went to Indonesia.
titank:
(4) Single gender class? Wow so good but what are the pros & cons?
I think this is something which you need to consider and discuss with your spouse. Personally, I feel that since I have chosen RMPS, I should be comfortable with my child mixing with children of the opposite gender. If I had wanted my son to mix with boys only, I wouldn't have gone to RMPS in the first place.
titank:
(5) She told parents that life in RMPS would not be easy, and for parents who do not want their children to go through it, please withdraw their children.

Wow already registered already a place still ask people to withdraw? Just have to physically & mentally prepared loh.
That's right. Be prepared. Be fully prepared.....

Hi QMS,

Wow must be operationally prepare in RMPS. Any idea the Principal said she going to bring RMPS to attain SEA (School Excellent Award)? Did you the other 2 Vice Principals?

Ha.ha see whether our kid would be in the same class.

My opinion is, just go for your priorities if you have the time & your heart can take the pressure of balloting

Blangah Rise will not be filled even @ Phrase 3, so tats pretty easy to chose rite?

By the way, ur nicks neat, ur kiddo collect Bakugan as well? we have 24pcs but dunno where she chunked it now since she into Yoyo nowadays 😛
Thanks FMz and ChiefKiasu for the prompt advice.
My pc crashed at the crucial weekend :stupid:

In any case, we were the unfortunate 30 who failed at RMPS.
I feel for the parent whom qms mentioned abt \"living so near that he can throw his kid to school\" cz I too live v near. 😞
But it's too late for stuff like that anymore...
I think the advice given here is the logical thing to do.
GESP first then BRPS (no offence to BRPS entrants).

But somehow it just burdens me that DS will be \"suffering\" the consequences of my decision and action for the next 6yrs 😢

As for the rest of us who failed at Phase 2C, let's brace up for the next heart challenge on 19 Aug! :!:

Thanks everyone.

Hi Titank!

Yes, must be prepared in RMPS. Geezz... I wonder who's attending school, our children or ourselves?

No, she didn't mention anything about the SEA.

The school now only has one Vice Principal, and yes, she was there this morning. In fact, she was the one who read out the numbers and names.

The principal, when she introduced the Vice Principal, said that they had very outstanding Vice Principals, because so far, all their Vice Principals had been promoted.

Let's see whether our kids will be in the same class or not. If not, the fact that they will be school mates is an affinity in itself.
