      Hi everyone,

My daughter will be starting her primary school education at St Margaret’s next year. My husband and I met the principal and we were happy when she said P1 children have no homework. She said the first year is quite traumatic already – longer hours, etc. – and she didn’t want to add to the stress.

Frankly, I think this is great. My daughter already cries when she has to do her K2 homework and studying. Work should be done in school. Studying for tests/exams can be done at home, but there has to be time for play too.

My girl will be in P1 next year. Went thru balloting yesterday. Lucky she got in! 😄 Feel sad for the 5 girls who didn't get in. Saw the principal but didn't get to speak to her. She seems friendly.

During the orientation last year, the principal mentioned that p1 children are given 10 months of honeymoon…no CA1 and SA1.

Don’t worry about their recess, they have P4 as buddy to P1 for one whole month. My girl adjusted well and is very chatty, confident and has many friends. She is quite fit now as the school has 3 PE lessons (including gymnastics ) in the week and one morning workout so they have to put on PE attire for 4 times a week .

              Hi all,

I have successful balloted for a place in St Margt too!

Firstly, I would like to thank chief and his team and all KSP daddies/mummies for your valuable informations regarding Pri 1 registeration 2010 and all sch balloting histories .I really learnt alot with the help from parents in KSP forum b4 I select my choice of sch for my DD. If it was not learning so much impt info from KSP, I wouldn’t think that I can secure a place in St Margt for my DD.THANKS AGAIN !!

I know of many of my fenz who didn’t do their 'homework" b4 they ’ cheong ’ for certain sch and now ended up to go Suppl phase c this friday. Some were really poor thing as there weren’t much choice of sch left around their plc.

The past 2 weeks, i can’t go to sleep without logging on KSP forum(abit addicted). The fun of connecting with so many KSP on the same boat making me feel so excited to log on everyday.Although, it was stressful to go balloting(at the end) but it will give me a ‘unforgettable memory’ for my DD’s P1 Registeration.

Hope to hear from everyone who have registered their gals in St Margt.

CHIEF, allow me to salute to you and your team once again! I really appreciated the fenzships here@KSP.

Thanks bzimum, for the compliments 🙂 ... and I think the most important thing for us is that we have accomplished what we set out to do, which is to keep Singaporean parents clued-in to what is really happening to the education system we are putting our kids through. And of course, for parents to connect and network with each other. We hope the friends you have found in this process will stay with you always so that you can encourage and learn from each other how best to guide your children through their learning journey.

We will be archiving the 2009 P1 Registration thread. Hopefully, it will still be available for your daughter to read when she does the P1 registration for HER child

                  Hi Chief,

Thanks for starting KSP and this thread. I have really benefited from it. Great job! :celebrate:

                  Hi all,
Registered my girl in St Margaret's during phase 2B as I heard positive comments about their emphasis on character development. Her childcare teacher is also an old-girl from St Margaret's and she too told me that it's a nice school.

Am pleasantly surprised to learn from this thread that they have a 10 month honeymoon and no homework. Think my daughter's gonna be over the moon!

Frankly, learning is a lifelong journey and should be made fun. No point having tests after tests. It will only kill the love of learning. I remembered 1 mum sharing with me how her son (who's in one of the SAP school) has spelling/chinese test every week in P1 so her poor kid has to go for tuition. No wonder the kid doesn't like Chinese.

P1 is a transition stage to ease kids from kindy (no homework) into formal school. Thank God for the enlightened principal. Just pray that she keeps the no homework/no CA1/SA1 policy 🙏

Am looking forward to the orientation on 13 Nov.

                    Hi all,

Can anyone tell me how I can get more info on the student care (is it in school and what do they provide?) and the school bus services?

I emailed the school admin before but she just told me that info will be shared during orientation. 😛

Am a little KS here as I live more than 3km away and am thinking of changing my work schedule (to part-time or work from home) to suit her timings.... :?:

In St Margret’s primary. They have YMCA after school care in the school, so my P1 girl stay there after school. Take her lunch, bath, nap( for about 1hr),tea-break and do her home work (guided by the YMCA’s teachers) in the after school care. The school bus will come at 5.45pm, she’ll reach home at around 6.30pm, just in time for me to fetch the younger girl.from childcare first after work.

You may call YMCA after school care@St Margaret, 63335084, look for Mrs Maggie Lee.

Thanks. That’s very helpful. Will certainly give her a call.
