hi Mr Alvin Chong,

may i inquire - if i place my child on waitlist at Pei Chun if fail to ballot, does the school has certain criteria to consider, before accepting a child in (from P1 - P6) ?

      a) is the school looking for certain CCAs that the child excel in ?
if Yes, which category of CCA, sports ?

      b) any entrance tests to sit for - Maths, Chinese, Engish, Science ?

      c) any other important criteria ?

      you may pm me.

      Thank you very much.
Hi Just thought I can share my experience with you.

I placed my girl on the waiting list with Pei Chun last year August. We are living in Bishan and are not ex-girl/boy from Pei Chun, didn't do any PV too.

I remember after submittion, I called up the school to check the status 2-3 times in Oct and Nov 2011 and was told there were about 30 others on the waiting list. Hence, we went ahead to prepare my girl for P1 @ Marymount Convent.

On the 2nd day after school reopened in January 2011, we received a call from Pei Chun and was offered a place. Without hesitation, we took up the offer after meeting up with the Principal. The principal told me an indian girl who initially wanted to take HCL changed the mind & withdrew from the school, hence we had the place.

I think acceptance is based on the school's discretion and for P1 admission, there is really nothing much to base on...no CCA or previous acedemic results can be used...
Hi, any of your kids gg for the Rainbow Fish show on 2nd August?

Yes, my chid going too. Am wondering if the teachers would keep their school bags for them while they go for the play??? Are there any such arrangements? The children would leave at 9am and return to school at 11.30am, right?

        Hi Marmum,
The students will leave their bags in school before they depart for the play. There will be some info which the teacher will hand out, maybe you'll be getting it today. Do bring along a cardigan or sweater for your child to keep warm. My boy was frozen cos he forgot to bring his. More pocket money if child needs to settle lunch in school.
Hi Aggie,

Thanks for the info. So your child went to the play already? Guess, should let my child pack a small bag to bring a sweater and water bottle along. What time did they return to school?

        Many Thanks, Marmum

          Hi Marmum,
Yes my boy went for the play and he loved it! Maybe you can also pack a little snack for him to carry along too with the water and sweater 🙂 They are scheduled to return to school by 1130 as some staying nearby may want to go home for lunch before they return for the day's session. If too rush, they will then have to spend eating at the canteen.

            Thanks Aggie,

My child said the trip was fun. Did not receive any notice/ handout from the teacher. They would only instructed to note in the pupil diary that they need to assemble at school by 8.45am. Guess, the instructions are given out accordingly by their respective teachers. BTW, can anyone advise me about the MLEA about the rocket balloon. Don’t really understand how to fill up the blanks to do the story as my child can’t tell me clearly how they did it. Anyone can share their childs input here so that I can understand better how the experiment of this Rocket Balloon is done. Many Thanks.

              marmum,

hope this is not too late… Below is roughly what the experiment is done…

The kids were divided into groups, each group tied a string with one end to the window bar, the other end held by one kid. Then the balloon was blown and attached to the string. Then, the balloon was let go and it travelled along the string while the air was let go. Then they see which group’s balloon is the fastest or farthest. Not sure if it is exactly what is done in your kid’s class… agar agar one …

Dear Minty2000, Thanks for the info. Sorry, what window bar is it about? My kid told me that they have to paste a tape of the surface of the balloon and one side of the string to it, put the ballon through. Is it correct? Oh, so its to see whose balloon travels fastest and farer unlike what my child told me which one burst first? Am really puzzled by it as if the air is let out, how could the ballon burst??? Really wonder if my child is concentrating in class. sigh… At least now I get a clearer picture.

Marmum, actually the string was tied to the window latch (i type window bar). Then the other end was held by one kid. They use drinking straw to go through the string, then use sticky tape to tape to the surface of the balloon. Then when the air is let go, the balloon will move with the straw along the string… The balloon burst is because they ‘over blown’ it, teacher will replace if burst. Then see which group’s balloon travels the farthest…

Thanks Callie! Higher Chinese for Pri 1? Or just standard Chinese for Pri 1 & 2, Higher Chinese for Pri 3 if the kids are able to keep up with the standard?
