what food to lower cholesterol?
-
I used to have high cholesterol. I am quite thin and so thought I could eat most stuff but
actually I was very unhealthy. Anyway, I cut down by cooking my food in olive oil. Cutting down saturated fat helps a lot. For meat, I ate mostly fish and ate lots of fibre, salads became my best friend.
Finally after months, when I went to test, the level went down to a normal level. I think cutting down saturated fats, eating lots of fibre and white meat helped. I don’t know if this is scientific but it worked for me. -

My own cholesterol level is ideal, and I think it is largely because I am not a meat lover. I do eat meat but can't eat a lot each time. Prefer vege. -
We used to eat more meat and hardly any fish at home. DH was diagnosed as high cholestrol during a medical check-up and we changed our diet. Include fish (usually steamed) and veg including mushrooms and fungus. As DH also started developing an allergy, he also cut back on other seafood (prawns, shells), beans and eggs. So far so good and I think a balanced diet of fish, veg, meat really helps. Love boiling soup too - veg and chinese herbal soup.

I think oats meal is the best for breakfast. It contains more fiber and zero cholestrol. When we visited for my mother’s high blood pressure the doctor advise us.

my journey in mainting blood pressure/ cholesterol.
same, detected hi cholesterol, hbp during annual check up.
tried many high fiber diet, drink (like ABC - apple bit root carrot juice) etc, until stomach cannot take it -> because I dont have a strong stomach for high fibre diet.
take green vegie of deep green leaves, younger are less fibrous, good for weak stomach.
Milk (full cream) are bad, the whiter the worst. Take goat milk from local farm.
cut supper, less oil, less white salt, less white sugar.
why? anything white may have been bleached in the process… take organic.
final, walk > 30 minutes per exercise, if possible, daily.
if no time to walk, must do stretching excersies that lead to deep breathing.
Meditate to bring tension on head, to stomach, in the process losen all muscle from neck down to spin… and tail… before sleep.
it will help, but very hard to lower… as there are lot of nuisance substance that our body are not smart enough to discharge…
Good luck. -

Actually my aunt swear by that and has been trying to convince us to eat oats daily for breakfast. I believed its good and forced myself to try ........but only lasted for 1week. After that, I got totally turned off and has not eaten oats for the last 1 year........ -

hi b2b3m4,
Risk group is not determine by the level of cholesterol but by your other cofounding condition, age and race. So if you have diabetes, heart disease or stroke, it will put you on the high cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk group. Those with a high risk group, the LDL control will be more stringent. When we we look at cholesterol, we usually zoom in at the LDL level, then the triglycerides. HDL is usually a 'good to have' but not so impt.b2b3m4:
eee....my HDL shows 74.88...total cholesterol 220..so belong to low risk gp...
but every time after exercise, I find tt my dh and I eat more then usual
..so back to square one or even worse
Target LDL for high risk is less than 2.6mmol/L or 100mg/dl, med risk less than 3.4mmol/L or 130mg/dl and low risk less than 4.1mmol/l or 160mg/dl.
I had pneumonia before. I also have heart patpitation before. In recent years whenever I fell sick, I will feel breathless and chest uncomfort...My doc did not say tt I have asthma but give me inhalar to relieve breathlessness when necessary.
Last week I went to see my cardiologist again as I felt chest tightness and uncomfort. After the tread mill, doc said tt I have heart murmur. However after the ultrasound scan of my heart, doc said the heart murmur is ok. She said quite a number of pple also has heart murmur but is nothing serious...But I am still a bit worried and puzzled as wondering the chest tightness is due to the heart or the lung....
Your HDL is almost 75, wow what do you eat?
even taking niacin doesnt boost it to that level , I think.
So your ratio should still be below 4.5 , right?
Are you the worrying kind ? get too stressed over day to day issues?
If so try to let go a bit -
I know easy to say- i am trying hard to do it and not so successful
Another area you may want to check out is GERD - if you have gastric issues it can cause discomfert in the Esophagus ...
Sigh in this era we have to be epatients aka engaged-patients .
Take care, hope it all turns out to be simple cause. :hugs: -

Same happened for me but it was unpolished rice. My mom kept saying it is the best thing to eat to lower the cholestrol and I ate it for 6 months before giving up. Never want to smell it as well although I think it did help me lower my cholestrol.smartmummy:

I also don't like oats. How did you prepare the oats? Plain or with something? The only way I find it palatable is with condensed milk, just a little bit will do, but even so it is so boring to eat.smartmummy:
