As I get to practice Mandala Colour Memory more often with my kids, I realize something about visualization abilities.


Some people simply cannot imagine, say, a white box in red. This form of visualization is relevant to our daily life - like imagining what wall colours you would like in planning your home interiors or dealing with questions like ‘would this suit look better in black or grey’? I know of some people who just cannot visualize anything and must see it with their own eyes. Most designers and artists have this ability to ‘see’ without actually seeing it.

Come to think of it, learning to use the Abacus has this ability to train visualization too. I shall elaborate this in the Abacus thread…

I am keen to send my kids to learn at Shichida. Although at their preschool, they are doing spelling, simple dictation, maths, reading, I would like my kids to improve the use of their \"right brain\", just for enrichment

Does anyone have any comments about the results, effectiveness and what exactly are they going to learn about? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Hi, why not try whole brain learning.My son goes to MindChamps Preschool and loves it. They have gym lessons as part of the preschool which I hear is very good for right brain stuff. his favourite is gourmet moments (and mine too for that matter) where brings back some delicious food he has cooked up in class. A few weeks ago, he brought back real salmon baked with rosemary leaves and all. I was surprised and it was delicious.

To those parents who has asked about Shichida.


I sent my child to shichida for 1 year with alot of hope and in the end, I must say I was disappointed as I’ve felt I wasted all that money. In total, I’ve spent about nearly $4000. My boy did not learn much except to copy what the other 5 kids did.

Although I am naturally positive about enrichment programs but paying about $65 for an hour is not worth it especially when ‘you’ have to spend so much time at home teaching and practicing with the child. It makes me feel why I should pay so much when I am the one who has to teach my child? I don’t see how playing a tape backwards and fast forward can help him learn languages. I spent about $400 on flashcards & the math dots and after trying for a month, I gave up.

The final straw was when he was given a 1 page long poem to learn it. He was only in K1 and worst was they did not teach us how you can remember the poem. I asked the Teacher (who is a young girl fresh out of poly or uni) what is the purpose of this exercise, and she said she would need to get back to me & never did. I did not renew after that.

My 2nd son did not attend Shichida yet his ESP is fantastic. I guess he is naturally intuitive, you either have it or you don’t. I don’t think anyone can teach you to have ESP unless you already have that gift then work on improving it.

Some of the exercises are good for the brain but I later found you can buy brainteaser books for about $15 and it works just as well. For $65 per hour, I would prefer to spend this money on buying materials outside and do it with my child. Certain will save alot and good for bonding too.

He attends the one in Toa Payoh. he started in K1 but now in K2. I transfered him from Cambridge Childcare in about 1 year ago. When he first started, he didn't know how to read or recognised all the letters (yes, at K1), but now he reads very well even for a boy. Worth checking out but I believe it is full. My friend's child attends the Tampine one and she seems to like it there too.

Believed in right brain training, so sent my two kids to Shichida for about 1 and a half year each. Maybe a bit too late, at 2 and 4 years old then, so not much impact. The elder one enjoyed the activities but don’t think it’s worth the fee. The second one worse, I ended up asking him to behave in class more than enjoying the class with him.


It may work in the long term(maybe 6 years). Saw a boy in my girl’s class then who can do math addition and subtraction at super speed. Then a lot of school math questions require you to be able to interpret the questions and applied, so no idea if it’s beneficial in that area.

Still don’t believe in the ESP training though. Kids most of the time ended up guessing and probably lucky at times only.

But I remember the principal did not say that all child can be trained to be "super memory, super smart kid" kids. It was more like show your kids more love and probably try to max their potential, in areas other than academic as well.

Was with Shisida for 9 months when my kid is only 3 years old. Results not too good. In fact, their course seem to be targeting at training the parents how to teach their kids. during the lesson, every activities last less than 8-10 minutes. The pace it going seem breathless. I wonder how do they know the kids can understand. Sometimes, being adult, i have problem coping with the pace. Couple of kids in the class seem to have been with them for quite a while and their mum is full-time housewife, hence have the luxury of time to teach the kids during the week. In the end, my kid suffer a drop in self-confidence seeing how other kids (with full-time mum) "fly" during lesson. I also cannot stand the part at the start of the lesson, where they get the kid to rub the palm together to generate heat and request them to "swallow" the heat energy and pass some to the parents. So very unorthordox. Lasty, the teacher always end the lesson 5 minutes earlier. Not that I am calculative but for a 55 minutes lesson, 5 minutes is a big deal.

Hi bishanman, my child have been with shichida since 2 years old. However, will be withdrawing him from next term onwards now that he is 4 and there are many other enrichment which I think will engage him more. Overall we have a good experiecne as my child enjoys the classes a lot for the first 1 and a half yeards and I learn some useful techniques of teaching my child.

I think the part about rubbing palms together...it's just a relaxation technique. I think they try to make it more fun for the kid by swallowing the \"energy ball\" It's a lso a kind of imaginative play.

Our teacher always extend the class for our case. A 4:15 class ends at 5:30 most of the time, so I think the length of the class varies from teacher to teacher.
