I apologies if my remark about ‘crap’ school has aroused many dissatisfaction.
But lets be truthful and get ‘real’ about it, if we do not categorized schools, then why there is such a common scene every year that popular schools are over subscribe even at phase 2b. Shouldn’t we parent just proceeds to the the less popular ones that do not require balloting…???
Maybe some will labeled this as ‘herd mentality’ but I suppose every parent in this forum are very ‘well learned’ in knowing which is good and which is bad. So let’s dispelled the hypocrisy that all primary school are on level field.
For all those parents at phase 2c (s), most if not all are in a state of being ‘a beggar cannot be a chooser’ that is why many of them in this forum will preached on the thoughts that there is no such things as ‘crap’ schools. But I suppose we cannot defy reality.
MOE has a common curriculum for all the primary school, but some will enhance it further while some will just do what is necessary and that distinguish a ‘good’ and a ‘crap’ school. I agreed fully that going to top or popular schools do not guarantee the success of a child, but as a parent, most of us do not want to deprive them of a ‘chance’… (If he/she cannot make it, then we do not live with regrets…in life it is better to be not ‘successful’ than to live with ‘regrets’)
When MOE implemented this policy of deciding the distance factor many years ago - I suppose we are still a nation of 3.5 mill population. It does make me wonder if there is consideration that influx of PR/New citizen put us native in a disadvantage position. Imagine yourself migrated to another country and by coincidence they followed Singapore system in the school enrollment for public schools - obviously you will sing praise that this is a fair country. But ‘fairness’ comes with a ‘price’ at the expense of the ‘native’. Will the native sing the same praise as you… come on lets be real… -

Indeed!! :hi5: :hi5: :celebrate: :celebrate:I agree with you!!... I also applied for school in p2cs cause I was balloted out in the earlier phase... however the current school is much better in terms of my DS1's expectations and he is doing good.
This school doesnt have too many hdb's near to it and its little difficult to access, thats why not so popular. They might not have too many pupils as top scorers however they have very good average PSLE score and the teachers as well as P are just excellent...
I would really feel offended if someone say that schools left in P2CS are crap schools... -

:congrats: Poppy! Finally settled your DS sch - must be a load off your mind!!! Sometimes, the \"unknown\" cause more stress.......glad you know for sure there is no need for balloting at all! Go have a nice celebration :celebrate: this weekend and enjoy yourself. Next round you will be busy with orientation. Maybe I'll share some tips with you so that you can smoothen the orientation process and not be stressed that day (note: can be messy due to numbers)!!!
