The sch fees is around $50 per lesson (1.5hrs) and the topics covered are in general are more advanced than that in sch. The Maths Hub website has info on the topics covered.

I agree that enrichment programme would not work in this case. Her child actually needs alternative addition and subtraction methods.

The method of counting on by steps using number line can easily get the answer for addition even for slow learners when they get used to it.

The method of counting backward by steps using number line can also help subtraction easily.

During exam, when there is no number line, a ruler can be used as a replacement.

Many children who are weak in Mathematics have shown great progress after using this method. There are definitely other ways but a bit harder like mental counting.

Example- Get child to add 8 + 4.

The child will raise up 4 fingers. Tell the child to say that the 8 is in his brain now. Count 8 first by touching his own head. After that, bring down each finger by count on with the 4 fingers. 9, 10, 11, 12. Notice that the child reaches 12 after counting on. This is the mental addition method.

I hope it is useful. If you really need a private tutor, you can get one by sending an email to supergrace5@gmail.com where this teacher is aware of alternative methods.

The fact is that even if you get a private tutor who comes once or twice a week, it would not be effective if you don't learn the method and practice with your child.

I hope this is an useful reply to the struggling parents of lower primary.

Thinking of enrolling my gal to MPM Maths at Buangkok - any comments generally if MPM Maths is good at teaching concepts ?

There are centers these days that provide both enrichment and tuition help. Some of them have proficiency tests before entry to determine what your child needs. Look out for those IMO.

                    Hey Lisa,

My apologies if I offended you. You don't have to apologize. It might be good for your children, and you were just being nice trying to share. What I actually meant was that it might not be suitable for einleda's child case.

                    Regards,
                    Peter

                      Hi,

Yes, you need maths tuition instead of enrichment. maths enrichment are for students with very good maths foundation and seeking to stretch their knowledge. Mind stretcher only throw your child into a big class with everyone. And everyone will have the same materials. Good luck yah, if you sign up with them.

I have a friend, Eugene, who specialises in Primary school maths tuition, especially the lower primary of 1 to 3. He has done a lot of research and has ample experience. Some of my students' younger siblings actually went to him and have nothing but good feedback. I dun dare to post his number here on the forum. So if you need his number, feel free to PM me yah.

BTW, I am not the one teaching. I cant teach primary school maths, a specialist is needed. I am a specialist in secondary school maths though.

                      I've just pm you.

                      Thank you.

What are some of these centres? 😄
