      Hi coolit,

Besides the black book (creative writing) and white book (synthesis and grammar) that you recommended, what others will you suggest? What level are these for? Do you think P5/6 children will be able to understand without their parents’ help?

        Hi JKKiasu,

They also have a spelling booklet with about 400 plus of the most easily misspelt
words inside. They break down the word so it is easier for the child to learn the
spelling. Eg: Strenuous becomes Stre/nu/o/us if I remember correctly. So my kids
can remember to put in the ‘u’s and ‘o’ at the right place with this method.

These books can be used for all levels. I have seen their P2 kids using these books
but the teacher will go at different pace for different levels. For upper pri, they can
do the white book at home on their own for extra practice. The rules given inside
helps me to be clear why my son makes mistakes in grammar and synthesis and I
know how to correct him as well. For the books, if your child is in TAS, they should
be able to know how to use without parents’ help. The teacher will add in extra examples at times where they will copy inside especially for their examples
of abstract nouns which are needed for synthesis.

Like recently for one of their synthesis worksheets, they needed to change the
word ‘glutton’ to ‘gluttony’ and after doing that exercise, they wrote down
these examples into their white book as well so they can revise.

          Hi coolit,

Can you share who the tutors are that your children are under? I want to put my child in TAS but want to put under the good tutors.

          Hi TTYL1,

The tutors that my kids are under are Teacher Joy and Teacher May Anne. Another few tutors that I know are good from my friends' experience
are Teacher Elaine and Teacher Fang Qi. However, it is important to see
if your child likes the teacher and also can work well with the teacher.
Constant monitoring is important and their teachers take our feedback
well. So you can feedback to the teacher on your child's learning.

          Hi Coolit,
R the a/m teachers of TAS or tutors from other ctrs?
My daughter needs help in creative writing

              Hi purple05,

The teachers are from TAS. They are trained to teach in the methodology
that TAS uses. If your daughter needs help, then I recommend that you
try them out. How old is your daughter? If she is in P6, maybe a bit
difficult but if she is in other levels, I think there is still hope because
the child will need time to get the techniques.

I am not sure about that as I do not have children or know of children in pri 1
prepatory class. Sorry can’t help you there.
