All About Moving House - boxes, movers, etc

CMF:
Wow! Thanks.Usually they wil come round to your place and survey how much stuff you have, and price will be dependent on size of the lorry required and how many trips required.
The dismantling & assembly of small stuff is usually part of the service - if it's not too difficult and specialised, eg. bed frames or shelves. Guess since they don't really charge for such service - wouldn't be fair to them if it can't be re-assembled. You may specifically want to check with them on cost, esp if there are many items that require dismantling and assembly.
Yes boxes are provided in advance for your own packing. I have always packed everything myself, though I understand they also pack for you if required (best check if it cost extra). Note once packed, seal (use masking tape) and label as to which room to be delivered to (eg. indicate master bedroon, kitchen etc).
My preference is to actually only have them move the heavy boxes, and for smaller boxes etc, to deliver them myself, cos depending on how much stuff you have, the lighter boxes may take up unnecessary space on the lorry (and extra trips needed).
FYI they use cling wrap for every item they move (except the boxes), eg. mattressess, sofa, tables etc are all cling wrapped individually. -
Great - glad it worked out! Yes they are a great bunch of guys, and like you felt that they were so helpful and with such good attitude that I gave them extra $$.

Wow… think I’ll talk to DH tonight about using Highpoint liao. Thanks for the precious feedback.
Quite headache how they are going to dismantle my sofa cos it won’t enter the lift. -
insider:
You have to ask them to see whether they know how to do it or not. My brother's giant sofa leaving behind coz of this problem.
See liao... -

Hmm? I thought what-can-go-in must surely be able to come out? How did it get there in the first place?insider:

160 boxes !!! OMG! I had 50 boxes in my 1st move and the long lorry was already full, how many trips did your truck take? I think you need a container truck!
My previous house moving shifted about 160 cartons + sofa + misc - 2 truck load and cost me $700. -

If your sofa is from places like HTL, you may call them to ask them how much they charge for dismantling and re-assembling. The other time when I bought my brother's giant piece from them, I asked them next time how to shift and they told me can call them and they can help to dismantle and re-assemble...
Have called High Point to come take a look at my sofa liao. Hopefully they can help me solve it. If not might need to call furniture shop. Worse leave it behind and resign its fate to the 'care' of my next tenant.ChiefKiasu:
It is assembled in the house. Bec of the size of the sofa frame, it can never enter the lift if it was assembled beforehand.Hmm? I thought what-can-go-in must surely be able to come out? How did it get there in the first place?
My tenant told me her aunt's sofa was brought up using a crane and lifted all the way to her penthouse via the window. -

I've called both High Point and Quality Movers and their rates are really .
High Point quoted me lump sum of $850 (with inclusive of est 50 boxes) and Quality Movers quoted me $580 (plus need to pay $2 refundable deposit on each box I take from them) after telling me how big my furniture are.
Agreed that High Point has very good customer service, I was quite impressed when he came onsite for the quotation. But the price was... Quality Movers was my 2nd choice and invited down for comparison sake, and the price was such a big difference!
I wonder if they do research on market rates at all?
I've actually confirmed with another mover who helped moved DH's office. DH said they are quite okay. They came and quoted me S$450 (plus comment on my big fridge and sofa ) and they will give me 40 boxes FOC.
