Correct answer in fact is (a).

If we remove the 'be so kind as' then it becomes (b). That additional phrasing makes all the difference - something which the curriculum writer did not realise.

          2. While I was surfing the Internet, Mike ___ a book.
a)was reading b) is reading Anser is b), why not a)?
Correct answer in fact is (a). Tense consistency is important in English.

Yes, the correct answer is (b).

This is not a matter of tense but of subject/verb agreement. When the number 'one' is followed by an of-phrase containing a plural noun, the verb remains regular.

I'm having a little rest for a few weeks so bye-bye everyone.

            ridcully ,

            Thanks for the explanations here.
I enjoy reading here, - for even when I know the answers to many questions, often I do not know why it is right and the others are wrong. Your posts educate me. So while PSLE is still far far away for DS, I frequent this post to read your inputs.

            Have a relaxing time.

The following is an extract passage to fill the punctuation:

Mr. Lim went to a restaurant. After he was served, he summoned the waitress back to his table.

              "Yes (13) asked the waitress.
Pointing to the pale-looking baked potato in his dish, he complained that the potato was bad.

Question 13: Answer sheet answer indiacted as ?"

My DD answer indicated as ,"

              Please advise. Thanks

                  Synthesis and Transformation:

" I have not seen Howard since we left school last year," Keeve told Desmond.

                  Keeve told Desmond________________________________.

                  Answer 1:
Keeve told Desmond that he had not seen Howard since they left school the previous year.

                  Answer 2:
Keeve told Desmond that he had not seen Howard since they left school the year before.

Note: should we change the "left" to "had left" for both answers.

                    Hi,

                    This is my suggested answer:
In Canada, a Canadian miner, Jack Silverman managed to survive being buried under an avalanche for three days.

Not all miners working in Canada are Canadians.

                        Hi,

                        This is my personal interpretation.

\"Yes, what is the problem?\" asked the waitress.

                        or

\"Yes, how could I help you?\" asked the waitress.
