babyblissnz:
Correct answer in fact is (a).1. Would you be so kind as ___ so much noise?
a)not to make b)not make Answer key is b), but why not a)?
If we remove the 'be so kind as' then it becomes (b). That additional phrasing makes all the difference - something which the curriculum writer did not realise.babyblissnz:
Correct answer in fact is (a). Tense consistency is important in English.2. While I was surfing the Internet, Mike ___ a book.
a)was reading b) is reading Anser is b), why not a)?babyblissnz:
Yes, the correct answer is (b).3. In a recent survey, it was found that only one in three teenagers ___ the newspapers regulary.
a) read b) reads Anwer is b), but why not a) to match the tense?
This is not a matter of tense but of subject/verb agreement. When the number 'one' is followed by an of-phrase containing a plural noun, the verb remains regular.
I'm having a little rest for a few weeks so bye-bye everyone.

ridcully ,
Thanks for the explanations here.
I enjoy reading here, - for even when I know the answers to many questions, often I do not know why it is right and the others are wrong. Your posts educate me. So while PSLE is still far far away for DS, I frequent this post to read your inputs.
Have a relaxing time. -
