        sunbeamz:
Hi anyone got into Concord for the recent registration? also any feedback from other parents who have children in the school and how the school is? Thanks.

i suppose there ain alot of parents with child in concord that are active in this forum. Well, i am one ๐Ÿ˜„

I've a P5 boy with Concord. He enjoys going to school since P1 and so far has not heard any complaints from him about his school, as yet.

Compared to Choa Chu Kang Pri sch for the same level, Concord doesn't, or at least it is not happening to my boy now, have alot of after-school lessons for its students. So my P5 boy reports home after school daily. There are only occasional extra 'stretch' lessons for the whole class. So far he has only been asked to stay back in school to attend Science and Maths, 1 each this year so far. Science was for the whole class and Maths for the weaker students in the class. Each session has about 4-5 wkly lessons, between 1.5 to 2 hours.

Back in P4, my boy only kenna additional Eng lessons once when he fared badly for his comprehension and that was just about 4-5 lessons only.

I have at a stage, felt that the school is not giving enough 'drilling' to the students by giving extra lessons to the students after school to prepare them well for PSLE. I was feeling v kiasu then, worried for my son who's sitting for 2012 PSLE. well, am still now ๐Ÿ˜‚

My neighbour's nephew in CCKPS, P5 as well, had to stay back in sch for additional lessons most days of the week. This smart boy is in the top class in CCKPS. I dunno if the extra lessons are to make sure the students were 'groomed' to produce good PSLE results or purely to 'stretch' them further to give good secondary grounding.

However, I believe in giving a non-stress school to my children as I think children should enjoy happy childhood memories and not one filled with just memories of non-stop homework n extra lessons.

With this belief, I've enrolled my twin daughters for P1 in 2012 via stage 1. Neighbourhood school can also produce scholars. Concord has ever produced students of good PSLE results. CHeck out the school website for more info: http://www.concordpri.moe.edu.sg/

To what i observed, the additional lessons are really only meant for the weak students or when students doesnt do well in Concord. Well, i would be proved wrong until my son is 'summoned' for a string of after school lessons ๐Ÿ˜‰

It has been a stress-free school days for my boy in Concord.

Hope this info is helpful to you ๐Ÿ˜„

I am a former student of southview, graduated in 2008, now in HCI. South Viewโ€™s pedigree in drilling students is unquestionably good. PSLE results in recent years only strengthen their reputation. However, we must note that the good results produced by the school must be attributed to the current principal(Mrs Jenny Yeo). I experienced my first 2 years in south view without Mrs Yeo. When she came, the change was very significant, new facilities were quickly built up and the PSLE results produced since then was great. However, this is her 6th year, principals hardly stay for 5 years at a neighbourhood primary school. Last yearโ€™s PSLE results show that South View is slowly losing steam and that other schools are catching up. I wouldnโ€™t recommend South View as its standard is slowly dipping, ++ principal should be leaving soon. Yew Tee and Choa Chu Kang have started to flex their muscles and I believe they will only get better. Good luck to all parents and their kids!

            Hi KennethKl

Thanks for sharing your personal experience.
May I know what are the new facilities built during your period?
Is Mrs Jenny Yeo fundamental in implementing the drilling style of learning in the school and what are the HOD's beliefs? I'm trying to understand the direction that the school is taking in the process that the principal change is inevitable. tx.

Hi, my daughter is 4 years old next year but it would be better if I start looking around for her primary school. I am staying at Yew Tee area and the school within 2km is De La Salle, Unity and Yew Tee Primary School. Any recommendation who school should I look at? Based on acamedic ranking, Unity seems to be ranked highest. Pls advise.

Now Yew Tee primary is getting better in academic... I thought De la salle rank highest among this 3 schs?

If you are staying within 2 KM fr DLS, Unity and Yew Tee, you will not have any chance to get in via Phase 2C, unless you try to get in via P2B. Based on the balloting history, there wer balloting within 1KM via P2C for these 3 schools.

                      Hi,

Actually, I am within 1km of unity and yew tee primary school and within 2km of de la salle. I also heard that Southview is one of the better schools within cck area. Should I PV for Southview instead and forgo the other 3 schools?

You can still keep your options open since your kid is just 4. And try to learn as much as you can about all these school in the next 2 years. You can try to PV for Southview but getting a PV chance at this school is not easy anymore. Also, if you are staying >1km from SV, 2B's chance is getting slimmer as the school reduces intake by 30 every yr. You can do PV in more than 1 school, fyi, and so it's a good chance to see the school for yourself that way.
