Think most of us overlook the time factor in paper I.

Normally I let DS do the school's prelim papers without really timing.

When DS2's turn in 2 year's time must time him for paper I speed practice alerady.

Ngbrdad u have a ds2 in 2 year's time taking PSLE? Mine too! (dd) Think of going thru another round really frightens me... already so stressed this year.

any other questions in math or english paper to discuss?

Based on DD2's memory for 2011 PSLE Maths:

        Paper 1 Q27
Five tins with same number of marbles in them. 18 marbles are taken from each of them and in the end, 5 of these tins have the same number of marbles as two of the original tins. How many marbles are there in each tin at first?

        Paper 1 Q28
A person eats rice. In 8 days, he has half of the total amount of rice remaining. In 10 days, 900 grams of rice are left. How much rice does he have at first?

        Paper 2 Q1
        The average of A, B and C is 5y. C has 2 y more than B and A has y more than B. If y = 5, what is B?\t

        Paper 2 Q17
There are teachers and students that had bought tickets. The price of each ticket for a teacher is $20 while that of a student costs $8. The number of tickets bought by the teachers is 1/4 of the total number of tickets bought. The amount of money collected from the students is $416 more than that from the teachers. What is the total amount of money collected?

        VC's mum

PS: Edited original post to include Paper 2 Q1

Paper 2 Q1 the paper stated that 15y is the total never say 5y is average

my ds' answer is 'deceitful' also..

I think the later qn is a little 'tricky'..my ds said initially he put 'substantial' then later chance to 'pronounced'..

I think a lot of kids torn between \"pronounced\" and \"substantial\". Good for your DS :rahrah:
I hope this was the only mistake my DS made 😄

Hi, my name is Shash. I am taking my PSLE this year. According to my teacher, the answer is pronounced but substansial could be possible too. Ultimately, substantial is for stuff which can be quantified, making pronounced the more accurate answer.

Ha Ha by then not so stressful for me.
DW will be taking care of science and english while I just take care of math and chinese.
Right now I'm taking care of all subjects for DS1.

                Q13)

alan and ben ran around a 400m track for a competition. alan''s speed was 190m/min. ben's speed was 25m/min less than alan's.
how many complete rounds had alan travelled before he had travelled 300m more than ben?

                is the answer 5, 5.7 or 6
i put 6 but the rest of my classmates put 5
5 as they clearly asked for complete rounds. (that is what i thought,my ans was 5)

for the ans:351 the question was abt chairs...someone arranged chairs in rows of 9. he bought 6 chairs and arranged the chairs in rows of 7 and had 12 more rows. how many chairs are in the hall at first? (i think?)

My answer is 357. I used algreba but it took many steps . Assume that number of chairs is x.Try to make two number sentences equal to each other and try to eliminate one equation by minusing it out from the equation that is greater in value.

                        I used the same method. I arrived at x=39. Then, i 39x9+6=357.
