Hi Vlim,

Yes , certainly, agreed that children these days are under tremendous stress.Sometime, its the children themselves.

I know some kids in ds's school will aim nothing but 90s and its the environment that affects them alot.I also overheard, one child, math paper one with two mistakes and its already a doom for him even though paper 2 is flawless.I dont understand.

      Regards,
      Leanne

my DD is so stressed, she cries herself to sleep... HELp!!! how?!

my ds also felt v depressed and stressed before prelim ... what I told him as long as he tried his best then ok liao...What my dh usually does, is to tell him some funny jokes and he would normally feel a bit better after some laugh.... .Sometimes kids are giving themselves alot of stress..

Just read this quote one of my friends posted on FB :

Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid. A. Einstein

Let’s all enjoy these precious gifts we have been given - our children - and not let one arbitrary exam make us judge them. We all have our place in life. What is most important is that we teach our children to do our very best in whatever we do - because then the universe will be in synch - and we would have played our part in that.

Tell your DD not to be too stressed, the Maths paper is not really a very easy paper. The average students feel that it is tough. So even with her less than prefect score, she may still get A*.

Rest is very important. Please ensure that she sleeps early before the science paper. Another paper that needs full concentration especially on the MCQ. All the best.

Hi! Everyone I am a newbie just saw all your posting and feel everyone is experiencing the same stress for PSLE… I have 2 children , one PSLE another O level… my stress is double for this year… my younger one is weak in maths and after the paper he does not want to talk about at all… it’s difficult for me to check with him what are the questions as he does not want to utter a word… I guess he feels real stress inside him… hence I do not want to burden him and in fact I told him there will be no more such problem sums as you go into secondary… don’t worry just do better for the other 2 papers chinese and science…

As far as I know, some kids did very well in their PSLE but do not do well in secondary, reason they just want to score at that time… when they reach secondary they suddenly feel free can relax hence they drop during sec 1 and sec 2… especially sec 2 streaming…my older boy’s some classmates score 240 drop normal during sec 2 and sec 3… hence it’s very important they that do real learning instead of scoring just for exam , they can remember better…
I have not much problem with my older child but my younger one is more sensitive hence I guess kids of this batch we parents have to spend more time to coach them…

wow.. 91.5 or 93 marks is considered not good enough.. parents are getting very greedy & hard to pleased.. no wonder our children are feeling so stressed nowadays!

Exactly, firefly38. I don't understand this. My ds is the 50-60 kind of marks, even for prelims for math. Can you imagine me drooling on reading the 90+marks? But the parents are unhappy about that? *sad*. I'd be whooping happy!

My DS1 also seldom gets above 90 marks (except maybe in P1, hee hee!), so I will be drooling with you too, phankao..

My DS2 even more classic case.. got 60+ marks for English and 70+ marks for Math, Science & Chinese in the recent SA1 exam :faint: ! I will be jumping with joy, if he can get above 80 marks in the upcoming SA2 exam 🕺 ! If he gets above 90 marks, I will be crying.. tears of joy lah! 😢 😢
I said this because I know of some parents who simply ignored the hard work their children put in and focus only on the results. They were reprimanded or even punished when they could not get the results their parents expected. One of them was even forced to still attend school and tuition although she was having a high fever!
                luckily im not like that..
Bc with your child who is Top 10 in the level - certainly you don't need to be \"like that\".

Oh well, I could say I'm \"not like that\" too, but simply bc mine cannot be forced to do anything. So I just have to watch him *relaxing*.

Been relatively new to this forum and enjoy reading the many posts and tips that all of you share. Many thanks.

Reading through the PSLE forum, it seems like parents like us are more stressed out about the PSLE than our kids. Inadvertently, we ‘transfer’ our stress and expectations over to our kids through our words and actions… I am pretty guilty of that myself.

DD had a tough time with the Math paper on Friday, was surprised as she is usually a 90+ scorer in school and the paper from what I read was not extremely hard. Talking through with her, I found out that she was so stressed that she practically ‘blanked out’ and could not think clearly. I feel sad for her and also guilty that I was probably the one who stressed her out.

Took her out on Sat for a break and hopefully she recovers from the setback and bounce back for Chinese, Science and Higher chinese papers rest of the week.

Stressful times indeed…looking forward to the break on Weds!

                    I've gone through this for 6 years already. Went from 70-80+ from p1-p4 to 50-70+ from p5/p6. ;( 😓

alamak so serious arh! my dd's friend minus 4 marks in the exam also like lock himself in the room dun want to eat, make the mom so stress call every parent in his class and ask what happened. Also the level head told him that their school's top scholar depends on him this kind of thing make the child so stressed!!

That's rather irresponsible of the school. Unnecessary added pressure.

That's true. Secondary school subjects require a different set of skills too. You can do well in PSLE if you study hard, mug, memorise and do lots of worksheets. Not so straightforward to secondary school because you need thinking skills and time management. So it's not surprising that the tables are sometimes turned in secondary school.
