I really long to be able to live \"maid-free\".... Don't really like to manage maids cos they're really unpredictable....
I have the same sediment. Though maid is useful and it helps to lighten alot of house chore but the managing part do require some practise and need some emotional preparation. My helper joined us in may and my 2 kids just join full day child care. Our maid is all alone by hereself during this time.
I have to worry that she leave home w/out telling us even though we gave her clear instruction to call us if she needs to leave the house.

        Dear Insider,

Thanks for your advise. I will look into it on the spycam option. As for the insurance portion, I believe we are covered however, good that you remind me to check. Thanks alot insider.

          Hi,

My maid is due to go out on a day off this Sunday and I have set down some ground rules with her when she goes out, plus reiterate the ‘no pregnancy’ and ‘no stealing’.

What do you usually look out for when maid goes on her off day?

Any good maid agencies to recommend getting Tagalog Maid? My current ones still blur like sotong.

Maid Agencies aftersales service really sucks! :stupid:

My current maid has no off-day, and I’m insisting on the same for my new miad who will come in early Nov.

I was kind enough to give my current maid two hours off to meet her freinds, even though she has no off-day. She came back late and a few days after that, showed black face, and said she wanted to go home without finishing her contract. She had been with us for 8 months then. She asked to speak to ther person from maid agency, and refused to tell me why. I had to tell her off sternly to stop her nonsense and bad mood.

Before anyone thinks I’m a terrible employer, I must clarify how well we treat her. She eats the same food as us, at the same dining table. If we eat bird’s nest, she also gets a share. If we eat out, she can choose what to eat, whether it’s at hawker centre or restaurant.

She had some lumps in her breast, and was worried she had breat cancer. To reassure her, I brought her to see specialist at SGH. Each visit cost about $100 (which I paid for), and I had to take leave to accompany her for each appointment. She saw the doctor 3 or 4 times in total.

Despite how well we treat her, she changed after just one outing with her friends. I have since learned that we should not treat our miads too well, or they will take for granted. Therefore I’m very insistent on the "no off-day, no handphone" policy.

You can PM me if you still need clarification. I am not muslim but from indonesia so I know a lot of the custom and religion.

Sigh... I have heard of maids change their attitude after going out with friends. But yours is quite extreme.

🙏 that mine will still 'look' the same after going out with her aunt this Sunday. Her aunt worked here for coming 6 years liao, so is an old-timer. Dunno what kind of influence she will have on my maid.

Hi, you can PM me for the agency I used. However, the one I used is specialised in foreign workers, not just maid. I had seen the new lots of CV, quite good quality and so far all the maids matched were manageable.

Tamarind has a list of maid agency to avoid.

I really regretted letting her go out to meet her friend cos it caused a lot of problems. Before her black face, I had a call from the maid agency saying that her parents contacted the agent in Myanmar, wanting her to go home for treatment since she has breast cancer. This was after she had already seen the specialist twice and confirmed that she had no cancer.

To be on the safe side, and not to cause myself any more headache, I only pick a miad who can agree to no off0day, and no handphone. Not that I want to restrict their freedom, but I don't more problems, after this experience.
Hi mummy of 2,

Actually I have heard agencies telling me that you should not take Myanmese if you don’t want them to have off day. Take indonesians instead cos they will keep to their word.

Alot of myanmese though promised that they won’t take off day prior to employment, after they come to Singapore to work, they will start to request for off day liao.
