Is Motivation talks/camp effective?

I thought that most camps and motivational talks were pretty effective. I learnt alot.

I personally dont think it is effective, my friends went for one of the camp

last year but the kids still didnt do well 4 PSLE . It's a waste of money & time. :moneyflies: :moneyflies: :moneyflies:

When I did my earlier posts on this topic, my nephew who went to Adam Khoo was only P5. But he is Sec 1 now. Apparently, the camp did nothing for him. He scraps through PSLE and made it to PSLE express stream. Now in Sec 1 in a hardly known school, he is still obsess with playing on the computers and it appeared that he is fond of using foul language as well, etc…


Definitely not a motivated individual.

Is it still worth organization to put your teeen for good course

background of myself, im a Ngee Ann poly student, i joined this forum out of curiosity and found out that many parents do not know clearly what is happening in schools.

at least for my own past experience, programs from adamkhoo etc. (supposedly motivational talks) are ineffective. the program conductors spend more time making everyone laugh than inspiring students.
while receiving their \"jokes\" i had a feeling that they are not motivated into really doing their jobs (come and go attitude\")

well having said that, it is just from my own perspective, some may feel it enriching.

My parents brought me recently to the Adam Khoo talk and I was quite impress with the right brain technique they use to "memorise". I wonder if it is so impressive as claim, why MOE did not train school teachers and we student will have an easier time. Imagine spending a week in their camp and being super achiever! Why need to memorise like crazy.

However my parents feel it might not work and further more it is pretty expensive.
To those who have been to the camp, care to share a little about this technique?

I sent my kids to Adam Khoo's prog too. They were only motivated for that moment. Nothing change or improve. I would say waste of money for us.

Actually it depends on the situation. My son did so badly in his exams in p5, （59%) and was very demotivated. Sent him for Adam khoo. Applies his principle eg. No such thing as failures but learning experiences and past success doesn’t determine future etc. and he delivers positive results academically, in competitive sports and managed to get 2A* and 2A in psle. And that’s because he himself realized where he wants to go and knows that he has to keep working towards it. I told my ds we will send his for a booster jab in 3 yrs time!

One way for students to get motivated is to have teachers connect their subjects to the real world and make the learning interesting. This is best done in the context of the particular subject. So this means having teachers who really understand the particular subject matter, have real world experience, and enjoy it themselves. That genuine interest and enthusiasm will rub off on the students.


Also, another thing that is a big motivator is a student who develops the confidence that they can think and figure things out themselves, rather than being told what to memorize.

As for my own science education, I was never turned on much by motivational speakers, because I gained my motivation through the two channels I mentioned above.
