Thats scary!!shalomger:
Once in GEP, they will apparently follow their progress throughout their lives, beyond school life even.

Ya. My friends who attended GEP told me about this and earlier on, so did my DS’s teacher when I went to meet up with her.
I had to go to his school to settle paperwork as for three years running now, MOE and his school have gotten his Father’s name wrong on documents. The name on the GEP form and on his student cockpit with MOE are both different and both Salah. Lol. I hope once we correct it this time round, we won’t have to ever again. A lot of hassle. -

Thats scary!!
I don't think you can or should interpret it in such manner. If you are successful, if you suddenly become news worthy, the media will and is capable of writing everything about you anyway.sleepy:

In fact, many successful people volunteered information about themselves by way of biography and publishing many books.
'stalking' or not we should have no fear if we are upright and honest. -
Of sheer curiosity which schools will u be opting for ur kids? We are definitely not selecting a SAP school as we don’t want DS1 to struggle with HMT

I am reading through the booklet now, it says GEP students have to take Social Studies & pass it and worse, this \"Social Studies\" is so different from their social studies now, it comprises of History, Geography & Economics ... i tot these subjects are for Secondary schools & JC ? I took my Econs in JC & \"see\" stars
Thanks, jtoh. I do really enjoy reading yr inputs. To all the greenies like myself, yr experience is indeed very valuable . Pls do continue to drop by and offer yr guidance. TIA.jtoh:
If you read through the various GEP threads here you'll get a fair idea of the trials and tribulations GEP kids and their parents are experiencing, the good and bad, the work load... There is no one singular experience. Some kids embrace it and do really well. Some others are struggling, emotionally and academically.
Attend the parents briefing with your kid. Have a chat with the schools there, as well as ask GEB any questions you may have. Chances are you'll come away wanting to join GEP bec it is a marketing talk after all.
GEP program sounds both exciting and scary ! DS has not made up his mind yet . Didn't want to push him since I believe he is one of the 'lucky ones' that got selected.
Told him that his signature in the GEP form is very very very important , should he decide to go for it. This is going to be his FIRST VERY IMPORTANT signature milestone !

Does MOE give a letter to those kids that do not get past 2nd round? My older ds had a letter and it said that altho' didn't get into GEP but getting past 1st round shows that he is within top 10% of cohort. Guess such a letter *might* help.
I guess no harm trying at all.metta:
anyone has experience or heard of students using Round 1 clearance to change to a better school? what are the chances of getting a transfer and also to one of their best classes? sorry off track a bit.
thanks a mil. -
No economics la .... Mainly history ..... Not to worry what the kids will be taught ... They can handle ... Just remember the dateline for various social studies assignments ..

for someone who lives at River Valley, which school is more convenient by public transport (bus/mrt/cab) ? catholic high primary or nanyang primary ? I would assume the latter is more popular ? Any advice ?

I still remember that signature. It's interesting how they make the kids sign the document so they know it's something they have to commit to. -
Social Studies is interesting, in that I look at it and think some of this I studied only in Upper Sec, JC and even university. It makes me think that 1) Times are a-changing and the younger generation are assimilating things at a much faster pace than us dinosaurs; and 2) Any subject can be understood by pre-teens, provided they are explained in a manner suited to their intellect and maturity.
