A friend got 225 and is in Indian Dance. Will she get into St Margarets, Kranji, CHIJ St Theresaโ€™s, swiss cottage, Dunman if she appeals? Please indicate which is the best for her to choose.

For the past 2 years, NYGH COP is higher than RGS. So it is not true to say that if she gets 263, she will be average in NYGH and below average in RGS. And it doesn't really matter whether you go in as average, below average or whatever. As long as you meet the COP, you are good enough for the school. And everything starts from scratch again. You are not going to compare your T-score with your secondary school friends anymore. Maybe first 2 weeks, after that, nobody talks about it anymore.

What is more important, is to choose a school that you will fit well in, that you like the culture and programme because you will be in there for the next 6 years.
Hihi...NYGH S1 public COP is higher than RGS due to lesser places allocated to public after catering to its affiliated NYPS girls who can enter into NYGH with a much lower affiliated COP of 250. So last scorer in NYGH is 250 or 247+3. On the other hand, RGS last scorer is 260(2010). Thus 263 is indeed average to above average in NYGH and below average in RGS. But I totally agree with the rest of your text ๐Ÿ˜„. Very good advice. Indeed, everything starts from scratch once you step into the IP. The PSLE score is history...

Would anybody have any ideas on preference between SJI and VS? COP-wise he would qualify for both. We live in Hougang - neither school is close by.

Any definitely advantage of one over the other?

Thanks in advance.
VS!!! If he does really well for the 2 years, he can opt for the IP program from year 3.

How about SJI? Thot they also have SBGE? Your ds can use the EESIS there. RVH has no SBGE but I think DHS has.

Initially we didn't know where is SJI located.
Thought it is quite far from our place near Clementi.
After looking at the map, it seems not too far.

SJI is near SCGS, on Whitley Road. Not that far from Clementi. Maybe 15-20 min by car?

Btw when my son's principal announce in the hall that 67 out of 69 pupils from the school were successful in DSA, we were so happy.

Late on we found out that in his class alone, there were at least 4 unsuccessful with DSA.
Think they include WL as suceesful.
Aiyah! The principal should have been more careful with his announcement.

Thanks.
Problem is he has nothing extra to offer except being in GEP.
Other than that he has a WL from RI which I'm not sure whether can be used to appeal since his score is quite far off.
To make matter worse, we will be away from 14 to 18 Dec.

At this stage anything goes. Juz put in appeal for RI too. Given his WL, they may take a second look. Plus, his GEP status may help. Of course you know the number of kids appealing including GEPpers who want to transfer from HCI and ACSI etc would be very long list there. But at least you tried ๐Ÿ™

I agree. Just try. You have nothing to lose.
Hello everyone!

My DS got A* for 3 subjects (he is exempted from MT) and got 255. I thought it's pretty low for A* for all 3 subj- can anyone shed any light if this is normal ? I was just wondering if his score has been disadvantaged due to his exemption from MT - anyone with any insights ? Thanks!!

It does sound a bit low, but could it be that his A* are on the lower end? Or that this year's EMS papers are all easy?

Hi, my dd got 3A* and A for chinese in 2009. Her score was 253. I heard that it is not unusual as her marks were low A* and low A.
Thank cindylauper and 2ppamm for your response! Looks like there are some others with A*s and getting around 250+. Sigh, not good news but thanks anyway!! :slapshead:

She's not NYPS right? So can't go in via affiliated min COP 250. And she has any accepted DSA CO? She's under S1 posting or outside?

If she's not affiliated (not from NYPS) and no CO -Then juz put in the S1 as first choice. Got 50-50 chance lah... cos 259+3 borderline based on last year COP. If don't get posted to NYGH, then appeal.

If she is outside S1 ie accepted other school CO, don't wait already! Go appeal NYGH. No restriction to appeal so also go put another appeal at RGS too. You never know what is demand and final COP at each school.

Good luck! All the best :xedfingers:
Let both child A and child B get the same score 250+3. Will their chances of getting into sch A be different if child A put sch A as his first choice but child B only put sch A as his third choice?

no

My understanding is dat, everything else being equal,
if there is one vacancy left in sch A, child A will be given d place since dat is his/her first choice, yes?
MOE says that the PSLE scores are calculated down to many many decimal points so it's very unlikely for two students to have exactly the same score. So the student who's ranked ahead of the other student will get into School A even if he/she puts it as 6th choice over the other student who put it as first choice and scored 0.00000000000000001 less than the first student.
