Would you pay a maid S$25 000/mth for her devotion to you?

Me? No way. I'm a jumper! Because I knew long time back it's not worthwhile staying with a boss for 20 yrs.how much you think your employer will be willing to pay you after completing 20 years of long service ?
that will be the answer to the question
as for the $6million question, if the employer have had someone closer, the maid probably wouldn't get a cent, okay may be a copy watch, gold one ?!
As for employers who have maid working faithfully and devotely for them for 10, 15 or even 20 yrs etc that length of service type please reward yor maid handsomely upon their completion of service otherwise why keep them for so long, right?
:imcool: -
If the helper has worked for me loyally for 20 years and treated me like her own mother, AND I have no one else to give my assets to, why not? I cant being all my material goods with me, can I?
People already can donate copious amounts of money to charity, what more of
Someone who has taken good care of
Them for so many years, perhaps unconditionally and more? -
Obviously the oddity of the situation is that the employer has got $6 million to dispose of, and has no one else closer to dispose of it to.
So it is an exceptional circumstance, which has no bearing on whether one would ‘pay a maid $25,000/mth’ for devoted service, as the answer for the vast majority of us would be no. Not because we do not value commitment, which appears to be the point of your question, but rather, that few of us will have the means, or we will have priorities ahead of the maid, including kin and friends who may have been MORE committed than the maid. -

Please do not insult me by saying I am no better than that maid (I believe in my self worth and you, not knowing me, are in no position to make such remark!). I am just not BETTER OFF than her becos I am not so lucky to have an employer who leaves me such inheritance. I believe you and a lot of many many others are not in her lucky situation either!
So, you're no better than that maid, huh? The implication here is that you, the employee, should not stay with your company for so long, right? And, if you're the maid employer, then don't employ a maid for 20 yrs knowing that in the end you may only reward her with a watch....I believe not even a solid gold watch, right?Pen88n:
Now, will my employer pay me $25,000 per month for my devoted service to the company, assuming I stay 20 years with the same company? Not to mention I helped the company earn $xxx and save $yyy......I guess not........
20 years service will maybe get me a watch???

I believe when we post any comments here, we have to be careful with our words; think twice before we pen anything hurtful or insulting. Honestly, though the post was not directed at me, I too was offended when I read it. -

No insult as the implication of my statement has been explained. Just putting your position from the company perspective snce you use your company as an example.
Correct to say me and others are not that lucky too and will never enjoy such luck.

I would do the same if I had $6mn (or even more) and no kids and relatives, and no particular charity I would like to donate the money to. This maid is practically my closest family member. Who else should I give the money to? My pet turtle?
It’s not about whether I’m willing to pay her for her loyalty, it’s about whether I have a choice in terms of how to dispose the $$.
It’s also meaningless to break down the $6mn into monthly payments. Not to mention the time value of money (i.e. 25k monthly payment over 20 years will add up to much more than $6mn), this employer certainly would never pay the maid 25k a month for 20 years. -
Chu Liu Xiang,
Putting my position from the company's perpective (in your words), you can say that I am not BETTER OFF than the maid, as she has an employer who gave her inheritance whilst I do not have a company that gives me that money.
However, you cannot say that \"You are no better than the maid\" (quote your exact words). In saying so, you are comparing me with a maid, and implying I am inferior compared to her. In what way and under what circumstances do you have the right to make such a comment when you do not even know me or the maid personally? Even from my company's perspective, why would my company compare me with a maid? Does it mean my company not paying me $6mil is saying I am no better than a maid? Then a lot of people are in this position. Of course I take offence on that remark.
I do not think this is a mis-reading / misinterpretation on my part. If you say that you miss the preposition thus causing the misunderstanding, I accept it. But if you say I misinterpret your sentence, read it again yourself and think how you would interpret that if someone say that to you. -
I think if one has a loyal maid, one can take some measures to ensure some security for her as she gets older. For instance, we started a bank account for our maid of 6 years, and have been regularly partitioning some of her pay into it, at her request. We also intend to top it up with occasional bonus payments. Best of all, its portable, she can take it with her if she goes to another employer, as opposed to being locked into us. We may not be able to give her $6mn after 20 years, but one hopes we will be able to help set her up over time for a comfortable retirement back home.
