my ds thinking of going to hci. is ispark only for gep ? is it more demanding than other groups ? thks 4 your help.

iSparks is for GEP + selected students with high PSLE score.

Some of the high PSLE scorer was not placed in ispark though. Heard they look at the GAT score for those who were selected in DSA and their t-score also probably. Know of someone who got DSA offer but t-score only 257 was placed in ispark last time.[/quote]Otah, is correct, the all GEP students are placed in iSpark and the balance spread across the four consortiums, they have a system to spread the students across the consortiums so each consortium gets an even spread of students of different PSLE scores.

My nephew from hci int’l gave me the school bookshop number so I called. The lady who answered the call was very chirpy. She suggested that sec 1 kids go next week as she is short handed currently. She said no difference in text this year between isparks n other consortiums which makes it easier for her. Her operating hours are from 9am to 3pm Monday to Friday.

Lizawa and YCPang, thank you for the information on EESIS and 3rd Lang ....

Another quick question, are we able to call HCI to \"release\" the booklist for Secondary 1 (2012)? Like if I send them an email, will they be able to forward the booklist in softcopy? Or is it possible to call the HCI bookshop? ( by the way, where is the bookshop in HCI? ) Sounds kind of kiasu but I am sure many parents will like to get the books earlier than hit the crowd on 22nd Dec .... Do you happen to know the HCI bookshop number ??
          Many thanks, once again ....

Hi all, then my next few questions are :

              On STRAND :
What is Strand 1 and Strand 2? I notice there are 2 strands in both Sec 1 and Sec 2, is this right ? Are P6s banded into different strands based on results ? Why dont students in both strands use the same Lit books? Dont they sit for 1 commom Lit exam paper ?
              On buying books :
In order to buy the correct set of books on 22nd Dec, am I right to assume that the child will need to know which class he is posted to that day? Like to iSpark or one of the other 3 consortiums and whether Strand 1 or Strand 2 for that matter?? Cos’ if consortium/strand posting is not on 22nd then how would we be able to buy the right set of books? ( tho there are quite a few common books ). In iSpark, I assume no Stranding ?
Aiyoh … very "cheeeem" … nevertheless, thank you all for info and patience !!! Very helpful …

Is laptop compulsory in HCI? If yes, is there a standard brand or model?

To add on to joe0599 above, is it more common to find students in HCI using Apple MacBooks or PC brands like Asus, HP, IBM or …? Do us parents source the laptop ourselves or will there be roadshows in HCI selling specific brands? I understand from Sec 2, they will need to carry one to school? Everyday? Is internet connection accessible everywhere on campus, or only in classrooms? Thanks !!!

Used to have a roadshow where some vendors will come and sell their laptops at good price. But not compulsory to buy from them. Yes, school has wifi everywhere.

Some lessons may require certain software to be installed. So just make sure that if u are using MacBooks, the software runs on that OS.
