The Alternative Story (TAS) - Discussion

It stands for The Alternative Story. You can google it up at http://www.thealternativestory.com/
but TAS also do an assessment test too. -
hi Yong,
many many thanks for your reply... :rahrah:
and shucks! another assessment test.. I have a phobia of them now... :yikes: -
fret not. actually having assessment/diagnosis test may not be a bad thing coz it enables the school to identify the standard of the child and put him/her in the appropriate class
all the best. -
Yes, an assessment helps the centre to know which class is more suitable for your child. In TAS, they try their best to help your child even if your child is rather weak, for my friend’s kid who was struggling, they got her to come for another lesson in the week (she went for 2 lessons) and she was asked to pay only half the fees for the add on lesson, they say they do this for weaker students and they attend that second lesson for about a month or so to help them to ‘over-learn’ - drill more and get them up to standards.
But if you child really cannot fit the class and does badly for assessment, it is better if the centre tells you, then you do not waste money trying something that does not suit your child. -
Hi,
Anyone knows which popular outlet sells the vocab book? My friend is trying to get their book, she went to Tampines Mall and Bras Basah outlets but could not find it. -
I saw it at Junction 8 Popular.

Hi, I bought both the vocab n creative writing book, any dear parent can kindly share how best to utilize these 2 resource, thks
-
For vocab book, you can go thru with your child and make sure they get the slight difference in meaning eg- reserved, indifferent, withdrawn- for the first chapter…and then test them on their understanding and also see if they know how to use it. I came up with extra sentences following the exercise to get my child to be more familiar with the usage of the word.
For compo, you can follow the strategies outlined and get your child to write. For compo, I dont do much, I depend on TAS to help. -
Hi I'm a kid in Singapore and I've attended both Learning Lab as well as TAS.
Learning Lab (english): I don't really like the lessons very much. In fact, it's quite boring. Their comp is like 13 paragraphs. NORMALLY, they take it from books. For compo, the etcher will ask the students to copy out the whole comp (usually). For vocabulary, it's very hard!!! (for me)
TAS: Much better than Learning Lab!!! (kid's view) but the classrooms are smaller though but comphrension passages are interesting and not as many paragraphs as learning lab :please: but synthesis is way harder than Learning Lab! But in vocabulary, they have a way to make the students remember the meanings of words.
and i think it's quite helpful!
Hope this helps! Any questions, just PM me or reply!

The assessment for TAS seems quite simple though I didn’t look into the papers. Think it’s good for them to do that so they can identify if the child is suitable for that level.
