All About Parent Volunteers (PV)

Luanee:
I feel that schools with clan or church affiliations usually ballot for phase 2B...haha...so I think go PV at schools with no such avenue...higher chance of success
Based on past years trend, St Hilda had been conducting balloting for >2km under phase 2B, so ur cousin must be already prepared not to get a place since there is no guarantee as long as u need to ballot. Of coz this year it is worse as she did not get a chance to ballot at all.2bbtang:
Just want to share. My cousin has been doing PV 2 years in advance for St Hilda, she stayed more than 2km.
This year registration, Under 2B Phase. She didn't even get the chance to ballot and was already OUT!! Cos' the registration demand for those staying less than 2Km was SO HIGH that there isn't any left for those staying more than 2KM. Bearing in mind, aside from PV, you don't forget that there are also Grassroots and church affliation... are a WHOLE LOT of people under Phase 2b. This is so sad, especially she has clocked more than 300 hrs!! So, if you are staying less than 1km and do PV, your chance is very HIGH!
So moral of story is, if the school historically need ballot for >2km under phase 2B, pls move to <1km. And if the school need to ballot for <1km under phase 2B, dont bother to pv in this school, choose another more worthwhile one. -
Luanee:
Ya. you are right. I totally agreed with you.. That's why I was concerned if Janice was staying near (or less than 1Km) to St Hildas...otherwise, end up like my cousin.

Anyway, heard from my counsin on the latest new.... there are overall 5 student decided to withdraw.,.....now the Principal hold the meeting with all the PVs who did not get in...and asked the question \"How many hours did you clock?\" Hmmm.. kinda of hint hint you right? However, they cannot commit to anyone yet...waiting for October to finalise everything..NOW all the PV are busy clocking hours!!!! This is indeed very stressful...morever there are no guarantee. -

I thought the proper way should be to either:
1. open the places for Phase 3, and parents who did not get a place so far can bid for them again, or
2. assign them to people who are in the waiting list in a 1st come 1st served fashion? -
2bbtang:
you mean hinting that places are available for those who clock in the most hours? I thought all PVs must already finish clocking the hours and the school should have records.

Yes, they are still doing PV. Depend when you have \"pledge\" to complete the volunteer. My cousin have already pledge to do it till end Nov when she signed up 2 years ago.
The 5 withdrawal happen only way after the registration closed. Many PV appeal to the school..... after all the hardwork, time and effort spent and didn't even get the chance to ballot.
I'm not sure nor do I have the right to comment how the school will handle the case....
Anyway, my cousin have already got a school of my nephew in a neighbouring school near her house under Phase 3. Well, I guess all parents are the same. They definitely want the BEST for their kids. Even if there is a slightest chance to try..they will do ALL THE WAY. This is parent's LOVE.

But ur cousin already clocked 300 hours right? Would be really hard to beat or even match that right? I really pity the pvs. At least if no chance then they would just give up, rather than now got to start the stress all over again.
And yes I would agree schools with no clans/associations would be a better bet to place ur pv bet on. -
kamsiah...
1. been busy at work + lazy to volunteer
2. live too far fr rank schools
3. PaRis Primary & White Sands out.. thus either Elias Park or Casuarina Primary... got my boy into casuarina in phase 3.. Hope the school delivers, after all it's getting more popular... I know I know.. ultimately it's up to us parents to guide the kids... sigh.. how time flies & my boy is so big oredi! -
Does anyone know upon completion of 40 hours of PV with the School is there any certification letter being given?
Does PV have a time card to punch in & out like factory worker standard? -

Maybe different for different schools, but for my case yes, they sent us a letter about a week before 2B registration starts to indicate we have completed 40 hrs and we brought that letter along during registration.Does anyone know upon completion of 40 hours of PV with the School is there any certification letter being given?

And we have a timesheet whereby we indicate Time in, Time out, Activity etc and submit that to the person i/c during each activity to endorse and sign. End of each month we will submit the original to the admin office to keep and we get a photocopy for reference. -
