:thankyou: Yup. Read about the no Velcro rule and got him a laced up pair of shoes already. Thanks for the pointers. ๐Ÿ™‚ We just got him his school uniform and name tags. We were told it will take 4-6w for the name tags to be made. Will he need a temporary tag of some sort before the name tags are ready? ๐Ÿ™‚

My Dad was from Oldham and hopes my DS will be in Oldham too lol.

Hi...no need for a temporary tag. It's ok till the name tags are ready.

Haha...I was in TKK in primary school and CKS in secondary, but my son got SVM which never existed during my time.

Lol. Our Ds is in TKK. ๐Ÿ™‚

Good...too bad he is not in SVM as I still have 2 PE shirts in wearable condition to give away.

Hope he enjoyed his first day.

The research assignment probably came from Mr Terry Tan, the maths HOD....haha...bears his imprint.

              Hi bbhome,

First social studies project would probably be Family Tree...seems to be the same every year. More to follow....keke. Just take it easy, it's manageable.

              All the best!!

                Hi clayman

Could I ask abt my chances of registering DS under phase 2A(2) since Iโ€™m more than 2km away from the school. Or to be safe, should I move up to 2A(1) by joining the alumni?

DS born is 2008, so I need to join the alumni no later than 30 June 2013 for the 2014 registration exercise.

                Cheers

                  Hi,

My son was registered under 2A(2) years ago. I, too, did not join OBA. Should be quite safe, going by past statistics. I would rather save that $500. But if you want to be 100% sure, then I suppose joining OBA would be the way to go.

                  All the best!!

sometimes it is good to join OBA to enjoy benefits. this $500, you can earn back anytime. It is not just for P1 registration purpose.

                    reason:
OBA alumni help to organize useful, meaningful events & activities for parents in school.

                    example of intangible benefit:
                    =============================
your alumni may have helped to organize beneficial Maths / Science / English workshop for parents.

if your child has not started P1 yet - there is no way for you to attend this type of useful workshop, because your child has not started proper formal schooling yet.

but if you had joined OBA alumni and your alumni is the one that help to organize such parents workshop activities for the school, then you can join the workshop readily. find out exactly whatโ€™re the activities they had helped to organize for the school so far.

it is good to touch base, network around - to keep pace & find out what were the recent development and past major changes & events that had taken place in your alma mater, since youโ€™d left school many years ago. It is also good to network with parents - esp. those with kids who had gone before your child, so that you know what to expect next, when comes your turn.

                      Sorry, whatโ€™s OBA again?
