      justaparent:
After reading some of the posts here, I am pretty sad to say some parents simply don't know what is going on in RV. Please, get involved in your kids' life by at least attend talks or briefings organised by the school or read the newspapers and get%20your%20facts%20right.%20%20Eg,%20%20P%20did%20not%20ask%20those%20who%20are%20getting%20D7%20and%20below%20to%20write%20letter%20in%20advance...fyi, the O level result was out yesterday at 2.00pm. All Y4 students are gathered together to listen to the P talk and then receive their results. The B4 criteria has been emphasized for as long as I know during briefings by the school. For the iPad thingy, other schools are doing it as well....Nanyang Girls is one of them. Some other schools have MacBook. Also, also get both sides of the stories. Some kids may be angels at home, but not so angelic in school. When things go wrong, don't finger point at others but yourself..Who says parenting is easy? Take responsibility!!

Hi justaparent, I guess you are the one who should get the facts right. 😓 Since when did anyone mentioned that P asked students with D7 to write letter in advance?
You sound like 'disciplining' the parents here. Be more friendly la...
Btw, parents here already know most of what you have mentioned if you read through the earlier posts. We may be kiasuparent, but we are not ignorant parent leh... :siam:

            French lesson starts this afternoon.

For those whose child will go to MOE Newton center for French, can try the following transportation if no school bus:
            1. EW line MRT boonlay -> buona vista (14min)
            2. transfer to circle line, -> botanic gardens (7min)
            3. go to dunern road bus stop (opp botanic gardens), take bus 171
            4. alight at Environment Building (next to Newton MRT stop)

I am worried about the inflexibility.
We have big dictionaries at home. Dd brought one to show her teacher.

Dd, together with her classmate, will be taking a bus from RV to Boon Lay mrt (about 5 min), take mrt from Boon Lay to Newton (< 45 min) and then walk to the Language centre.

I heard there is a school bus service (one way); $50 per term; unconfirmed.

The teachers are going to teach them phonetics, that's why they want everyone to use longman dic.

The oxford advanced dictionary has it too. I had purchased that specifically when I did a module in phonetics 2 years ago. My DS brought it along to show his teacher but was told it wasn't acceptable. I intend to email his teacher to enquire the reason for the insistence for longman.

I will check with dd when she is back tonight on her showing of our BIG dictionary to her teacher.
Dictionaries are reference materials and teachers should not insist on a particular kind/type.
If RV is to follow the University's style, then the books listed in the book list should be called as reference books/materials.
Math notes are given which means the math textbook is optional?
