Some Y1 parents have already voiced similar concerns during the briefing held in first week of Jan.i am not against IPAD being selected as an enabling tool or enhancer for education.
Like most parents, what I am not comfortable with is the pressure
of the deadline of submission to purchase the tool, with the imminent launch of IPAD3 - rumoured to be on 24 Feb (Steve Job's Birthday). Somehow, I just hope that what we are purchasing is not a \"stock-clearing of obsolete products\" process and which I strongly think is not in this case.
Basically, I would like to seek clarification from the RV contracting vendor aboutthe concern of the lowering ofthe price of IPAD2 when IPAD3 is launched.
To allay the fear, the vendor could give price assurance - should the price of IPAD2 is lowered due to IPAD3, then a money-back refund of the price difference be given back to the purchaser who has bought the IPAD2 in the early or this round of purchasing process.
i am not sure who is the appropriate authority to address regarding this issue and help the parents/students -
to the Principal, parent-student group or MOE?
any one can advise ?
or
anyone can help to inform the school of this concern and assurance urgently as the deadling is closing ?
I am sure this is the concern for most parents affected by the IPAD2 vs IPAD3 issue.
If the vendor can give the price assurance of money-back refund, I am sure RV will have the blessings from most parents of the success of IPAD as the enabling tool. -

Actually, RV has a tendency to try new things and thus a spirit of innovativeness. For IPAD, it depends on how it is used. It can enhance innovative thinking or do the reverse.Good to see octopusmum back in action.
This ipad stuff is causing a lot of parents headache. The sch is already doing so well without ipad, there is really no need to introduce ipad.
Y2 parents were told that by next yr, 50% of lessons on ipad, after that 80%.
dd also said it's very stressful to bring such an expensive device to sch. -
HI daisy/sall
thks! glad to see that you ladies r still so active in ks!
good to know that we can still "control" usage…will go and explore and see if i can block the downloading of all games!
i asked ds . he said the school did tell them about the new Ipad 3 and said that they should get the ipad 2 regardless. or they can go borrow ipad 2 if they wish to wait…
HI weihan, i am all for innovation but like what u said, it depends on how the ipad will be used and i really hope the school knows what they r doing in this aspect…
and re losing the expensive equipment, gosh, that is another worry:( this is unlike a textbook which is not ex to replace…is there an insurance we can buy to safeguard ourselves in cases of losses? haha… -
Textbooks are not susceptible to theft at all. The students always leave the texts under their desks and nobody will steal them. Ipad is so expensive, that’s why if it is misplaced, very slim chance to get it back. It is really troublesome to have to lock them up everytime they go for recess, pe or practical lessons. Waste of time too!

Hi parents,
I had sent my questions to http://www.todaysmeet.com on 16 and till now there is no reply from Mr Lee.
I don't want to buy iPad2 knowing that iPad3 is around the corner. Though the school said can don't participate in the program but the teachers are strongly encouraging the students to buy iPad. They are kind of getting the students to pressure their parents.
The parent association chairman even asked the parents to get the kids out of RV if don't want to participate ??!!! -
Belle2011:
Actually what we can do is to get the iPad2 without going through the school. If the price really falls with the release of iPad3, then we'll highly likely get a lower price for ipad2. Also, dont hv to reply affirmative to the bulk purchase by the school.happypie:
Latest news: ipad3 will be sold in Feb, and price of ipad2 will going down
ipad3 available in spore in early feb (which is just round the corner) or late feb ?
Hope RV management sees our concerns.
To share with you, I bought my iPad1 from eBay a short while after ipad2 was released. It was a brand new 64gb with wifi only. I paid only $580, abt $500 lower than a 64gb ipad2 then.
Personally I think it is worth the wait. In any case, the school is unlikely to launch its use 100% immediately. -

Is this true?? If so, it is ludicrous!Hi parents,
The parent association chairman even asked the parents to get the kids out of RV if don't want to participate ??!!! -
Just do a google search for "ipad3 launch date" and you’ll get some info. here is an example:
The iPad 3 release date has been in the news loop for long. Here’s some more rumor – this time, putting the iPad 3 release date closer to March. Macotakara, a Japanese website dealing with Apple news leaked – or rumored – that Apple is looking for an early February launch and an early March release date for the iPad 3. If that is going to happen, quite a lot of people are going to be happy!
The iPad 3, you would have already read on our website and from various other sources, is a top-notch tablet from Apple, building on the iPad 2. There are quite a lot of interesting iPad 3 features on the charts. Although some of the iPad 3 specs have been logically constructed, based on the upstream supply chain information and sources from manufacturers, most of them are still under the rumors category. Nevertheless, they are very impressive! -

During the session, there was a parent who was extremely rude to the P and kept interrupting. This parent was all out to have a fight with the P. Another parent already got a reply from the P via email, yet she repeated all her questions and was insistent on a satisfactory answer. It was getting very unpleasant, that's why the PTA chairman was so upset. But she shouldn't have said that. -
