Any parents here have kids who joined the string ensemble? Is there some kind of pre-requisite to join? Are they required to do a lot of performance? ie the boys have to stay back to practice very often? Thanks

any idea whether there are still parent volunteers or sch staff to help direct the kids to the gen office when they alight from sch bus in the morning? esp if the bus doesnt stop exactly in front of the office but just close to it or worse, at the exit lane where there’s a traffic warden to direct traffic? is such help available the whole year round or jus during p1 orientation week whc is over?

for dismissal time, do the drivers still wait for the kids at gen ofc benches or do the kids have to locate the bus themselves and go up themselves?
        concerned abt the safety.

Hi 24hr-mum, I sent DS1 to school today & they were still there to help the kids & direct them. There are 2 drop-off points, 1 near the Gen Office, & the other on the right of water feature/fountain.
Can't answer the after school part as DS1 goes to ASC.

            bigfoot:

If DS can pick up badminton on his own, then we would let him go for the trial in P4/P5.
            Hi bigfoot,

Will there be a trial at P4/P5? My friend's son went for the assessment/trial last week and was told that her son can join but not the school team. She is also hesitating becos' it is 3 times a week...and is not the school team.

There will be sch staff directing the students in the morning throughout the year. They will even bring an umbrella if it rains. As for dismissal time, the drivers will usually looks for the kids around the general office/waiting area. The kids will also be told where to look to for the bus in case they couldn't find their driver.

                  Hi,

My P3 son is in school band. He needs to report thrice weekly at 6.45am for an hour long practice. After school practice till 4.45pm.

I have to rearrange all his tuitions so as not to clash with the band practice. Hope the school can win the SYF this year.

I guess your friend's son is not good enough. If I'm not wrong, there should be 12 players in the school team (usually reserved for the top 12 players). I don't mind 3 times a week if my DS has the potential to excel in badminton. Usually the top players' parents wouldn't mind too. But if it is for the development program, then thrice a week seem a bit too much especially if the training is charged on hourly basis.

Anyway, if DS can't get into badminton, we can always explore other CCA. 🙂

For performing arts, it's quite normal for the kids to have intensive training especially during the SYF year. It's held once every two years. I didn't know P3 are involved in SYF. Your DS must be playing quite well. 🙂

I am not sure if he plays well in percussion but he does have drums set background. It’s his interest, so he is not complaining on the frequency of the practices.

It’s the grandparents that is worried that he is not getting enough rest.

Anyway, after April, the practices should reduce after SYF.
