Choosing and Evaluating Primary Schools
-
:welcome:
Perhaps you would like to make a self-intro at the Newbies thread? This is a SOP in KSP.com.
kosyb:
What you can do is register with Pei Chun at P2A and monitor the situation for the other two schools.1) Pei Chun Primary –...register under Phrase 2A...
2) ACS Junior -...register under Phrase 2B..
3) River Valley -...register under Phrase 2C
...
If you were at my situation, which school would you choose?
Actually, the distance between River Valley and Pei Chun is not that long. There are parents staying in Punggol/Sengkang planning to send their children to NYPS. There are also parents staying in Yishun who send their children to Nan Hua in Clementi. Now, you tell me - which one is further?
As for whether Pei Chun is the \"best\" school for your child, only you and your husband are able to answer this question. You know your child best. -
kosyb:
besides wondering which sch is better, your real concern should be are you willing to risk Pei Chun for River Valley as you are unsure if River Valley has balloting. look at your back up plan for River Valley in the case if there is balloting for River Valley and you suay suay did not succeed. then compare between Pei Chun and that backup sch to see if it is worth to the risk to ballot.
Apart from ACS Junior and not considering distance, which school would be a better choice between Pei Chun and River Valley, in terms of academic, environments etc?
alternative is, go for Pei Chun and then when sch starts, put yourself on River Valley's transfer list. there is always a better chance of transfer opportunity after P1 (but be prepared to wait until P2-P3 for that vacancy and be prepared for entry tests assessment if the sch decides to conduct any) as you are staying near to River Valley. then use this time to see if Pei Chun is suitable for your kid. downside is you have to convince your kid of the transfer later on.
just my opinion. -
Hi, qms
I am sorry, I didn’t know that I need to make a self-intro first..I have been just reading through the posts from “P1-Registration~~” and was not aware of those thread. Btw, what is “SOP” and “KSP”,com?
It looks like I’ve just cut a que and made a posting here. Please excuse me.
I know my child best, of course, but honestly, I don't know much about the schools.
I was not educated in Singapore and so I am not very familiar with the education systems/schools in Singapore.
What I know about the schools are, PeiChun is good for Chinese (is it called SAP school?) and ACS has affiliate secondary school, Pei chun and River valley are mix school /double session etc. That’s all I know about the schools.
I understand that it is the parent to decide a right school for their child. So, in order to make the better decision, I would like to have \"ANY\" valuable information from \"more experienced parents\". Thanks !
Hi, jedamum
Thanks for your feedback! I will take note for the option too.

I think the choice is obvious. Choose Pei Chun and no stress…

OK. Now that you have provided more information, the picture is clearer. In your last post, you asked whether Pei Chun would be the \"best\" choice apart from distance. So, I thought you knew about these schools that you were considering.I was not educated in Singapore and so I am not very familiar with the education systems/schools in Singapore.
kosyb:
Yes, Pei Chun is good for its Chinese. It is a highly coveted school. Since your child's place in Pei Chun is as good as guaranteed (so far, we have not witnessed any balloting in P2A), it makes sense to apply with Pei Chun at P2A and monitor the situation for the other schools. Like what Jedamum said, if Lady Luck were not with your child during balloting for the other schools, how would you feel? Of course it will be a different story if your child is weak in Chinese, for instance. What I know about the schools are, PeiChun is good for Chinese (is it called SAP school?) and ACS has affiliate secondary school, Pei chun and River valley are mix school /double session etc. That’s all I know about the schools.

Hi Larkspur,
I greatly appreciate your feedback. Just sent an email to ms Sara. Hope it’s not too late too join in the volunteer though…thank you! -
Hi Mummies and daddies out there, Hope some of you live in Sembawang.
May I know what you think on Sembawang Prim.and Canberra Prim? I heard Sembawang Prim. has after-school student care but I think Canberra comes up with better PSLE result. For both schools we fall within 1km and will be under Phase 2B for both schools. ( I have submitted for PV for Canberra Prim.already). We are thinking between ‘having student care arrangement’ and ‘higher PSLE result’.
Could you advise which school we should decide for our son? -

Sorry...but how did you qualify for phase 2B?
(1) You are not a grassroot leader. This is evident from http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?p=701390#p701390 in the 2013 P1 Registration thread.
(2) You have submitted PV application, but have you been accepted?
Are you also a PV for Sembawang?
I hope you don't think that by living within 1km, you qualify for phase 2B? -

hi bensmom,
you may have applied for PV for both schools. However only when the school has offically accepted you to join PV then you are a PV under phase 2B.
living less than 1 km - doesn't make you a PV. -

Canberra PS is one of the future school in IT also.Hi Mummies and daddies out there, Hope some of you live in Sembawang.
