Hi all!
After reading all your posts, I realised my DS shd be dreaming most of the time.. few weeks ago, he didnt know there was spelling.. and just today i asked him if there is any homework from TAS, he said no..
Now that you gals have mentioned abt the memorisation thingy, i thk i better go dig his bag... :slapshead:
I also thought the synthesis exercises were good.. just curious, I thought synthesis are only tested in P3 level? I chk most of the assessment books out there only have that in P3 and above?..
S'times i also 1 2 to chk with the teacher my DS's progress but the crowd always scares me... :scared: -
hi ilovechubby,
A bit impossible unless (there’s always this possibility) that your child is very bright. for spelling, each wrong word invites a whole lot of corrections. So kids should be very inspired to get it all correct. They use the notebook for spelling also, you can go check your kid’s.
But yes, there is otherwise no homework from tas (whew).
I’m not sure what time is your child’s lesson. if it’s first lesson of the day, I find it’s a very good time to catch hold of the teacher. Else, perhaps you can arrange a time for the teacher to call you or something? From the little that I have seen, they are fairly good about talking to parents. -
i agree with hquek, no homework (whew!) but revision on her mistakes and the memorising time taken is as gd as homework time sigh…
-
woah, that’s good. I didn’t used to check through his work, but then realised that I should be doing that. Anyway, new year new challenge. last time DS will learn his spelling last minute; now cannot, have to do earlier becos more words.

Thanks hquek!
My DS's lesson is e 1st lesson of the day but we are always late...
Will try to catch the teacher next time round...
Not sure abt your kids' school workload, I find my DS's school has daily homework this year (unlike last yr P1) + homework fr enrichment classes... as much as I hope to go thr' some other assessment books/past yr papers with him, I find it hard to squeeze out time.. -
hi ilovechubby,
This year DS also has loads more homework, esp chinese - his teacher somehow went on overdrive. I also find it tough to keep up the constant monitoring, so will just do my best. Haizzz. -

Same here, the crowd is scary but I quite ks one so will squeeze through crowd to talk to teacher. If its too much for you, perhaps you could let the admin know to ask the teacher to call you?
I also thought no synthesis at P2, I asked the tas teacher and she said they want to expose them at a younger age to synthesis because it can be quite tricky for the kids. -

Quite surprised that TAS have time to cover so many aspects in just one lesson a week.

TAS does not cover Cloze Passages. -
They usually cover compre, synthesis, vocab, compo and spelling, sometimes grammar. They do cloze passages at times but very seldom.
The lessons are quite intensive, the kids are not given room to daydream or to like do their work slowly as they cover quite a lot of things in one lesson and I like that as compared to a previous centre, the pace was more leisurely and I didnt find that the learning was as fruitful. And it trains my kids to really focus and the teachers can be quite strict if the need arises.
