      jolsh:
just want to know is ICanRead better or MMI :? one starting this week, the other starting next week..

Bad reception experience with ICR. Didn't like what i saw..... how the
ang moh teacher handle the BIG group of children. Or rather how she
was NOT able to handle them..... and a very messy dismissal time. So
ICR won't get my vote this time. However, different people will have
different experiences, so you should go down and look see for yourself
to gauge. I didn't even want to consider enrolling my kiddies after a
      very bad first impression. JMHO.

As for MMI, staff turn-over rate is rather high in a few centres. I am
pro-Montessori... hehee... so my review can be seen somewhat a lil
biased. So, i would say i like the Montessori Method of teaching
      Phonics. πŸ˜‰

Okay, seriously now yeah... even with MMI; again... teacher calibre
is important here. Better if you get to speak to the MMI teacher who
will be taking your class b4 U decide 2 take up the programme. There
is also a ruling about having to finish the entire course or U may lose
your deposit. Please find out the exact details of the terms & conditions
when you visit the centre of your choice.

I dun suppose i helped much here with your question but just my
      honest inputs, okie.

Fairly good experience with ICanRead over at Woodlands Civic Centre.

On occasions when there are issues with administrative stuff, I will speak
to the centre manager(s) who usually can resolve the problem pretty
quickly and professionally. Curriculum is fantastic! πŸ˜„

              Heyya jolsh,

I hope you'll receive better reception than what i got! πŸ™ Remember to
look out for the teacher in charge who will be taking your child's class,
              okie...

I do agree with all.in.one with regards to the cost at ICR though. My
friend put her daughter up at ICR Woodlands and pulled her out
thereafter due to what seemed to be.... a high in student-teacher ratio
which she says cud be a negative factor in the rather slow progress of
her daughter's phonics pgrm & hence not justifying the costs she had
to invest in. I also found that the group sessions at ICR cudn benefit her
daughter's case, as my friend was pushing prominent results. (She
started out with ICR when her DD was slightly after mid K2...)
So, i scolded her for last minute preparations...

Seeing her daughter being held back to conform to the group progress,
              she subsequently engaged a home-based language coach, one-to-one. πŸ˜‰
And done in the comfort of her home too! 😎 Now, her daughter is in P1
and she is happy that her daughter is doing well in school and keeping up
with the P1 syllabus effectively. πŸ˜„ She realized then (with her 1st born
daughter's experience) that she cannot be lax in equipping her children
with reading skills especially since she cannot afford time to teach her
own children cos she is a full time working mother. (shift work too!)
She decided to ask the language coach to continue with her 2 other
              kiddies as well. πŸ˜„

All the best with your recce at ICR, jolsh.
              Keep in touch. πŸ˜‰

the language coach sounds very interesting, i sure hope i dun need that cos i believe the cost should be higher than ICR ? ")

My gal has been under Zoophonics since June. Honestly, when we ask her what she learn, she din say much. Very tempted to pull her out…

But every weekdays, she will happily said i will be going Zoophonics on Sat…i like going zoophonics…

no heart to pull her out

My friend says it's cheaper and more convenient.

She now doesn't hafta rush home to bring her
                  daughter out for enrichment programmes,
since the coach comes to her place and
now does with her son as well. Save on
transport and buying tit-bits or snacks
after class. All the kids want nowadays
                  is Mac Donalds.

Plus it's one-to-one. she feels it's worth it since
her daughter doesn't have to conform to a
group's progress. She says her the results
for her daughter has improved a lot better
                  and faster.

To each his own lar jolsh... Different strokes
for different folks. Hope it works out for ya,
                  girl. Take care. πŸ˜‰
