Hmm, I also think my idea is good.
But I fine tune it a little....

        MOE should seriously consider this.

        Propose to create :

        1) Nanyang Primary - Yishun, Jurong, Bedok branch / Campus.
        2) Catholic High - Woodland, Boon Lay, Geylang branch / Campus.
        3) Rosyth - Sengkang, Sembawang, Selegie Road campus.
        4) Any other top 10 most popular schools are welcome to apply.

Just like INSEAD / Duke / Yale setting up affliated programs in singapore.

We should also expand our \"brandname\" primary schools to Malaysia, Indonesia and other countries.

With the above, we'll have more than enough places for Singaporeans (alumni, PVs, clans, Religion, distance-based etc) , PRs and Foreigners.

Thought similar ideas have been discussed?

Issit? Ops.... cannot patent and claim credit liao.

        :moneyflies:

          Because....
MOE definition of good school is different from some parents' definition of good school.

Like Mr Mah used to define that HDB as \"afforable\" ... you say HDB afforable or not leh? šŸ˜‚

Exactly, so no matter how the schools are renamed, it also won't work.

Sigh, for HDB, I can afford but not allowed to buy. No fair :stompfeet:

So pls tell me - what's sooooo special abt alumni that they warrant unlimited entry criteria vs church n clan?

Very question....I also very interested to know.

Very question....I also very interested to know.

For various individual opinions to that question, I look forward to your generous efforts to comb through the 131 pages and consolidate them in the your next post(s).

Still not satisfied with the possibly one-sided opinions?

Then .... for MOE's official Unbiased stand on this, please call / email them directly and post their reply in this forum - for the benefit of everyone here.

Cheers! Here's a tiger for your efforts.

I'll dissect your arguments pt by pt.

                    Chenonceau:
Alumni ties don't respond so much to money. They're love relationships.
You don't need priority admission to nurture \"love\". The alumni can always visit their alma mater to express their \"love\", whether or not their kid is studying there. Unless the alumni wants to disown their alma mater bcoz they kids couldn't get in.. What is \"love\" then??

No need to twist and twist lah..
                    Chenonceau:

I merely point out that if you close off alumni then in the long term, money alone is left to talk because people buy property with money.
Alumni are not close off. They may still get in. There are alumni staying nearby isn't it..? And they may be average SC. They can pass down the flat for generations. Distance priority means that there is LESS incentive for them to sell off their flat to the rich. Hence, the wealth distribution may be preserved. (my speculation vs your speculation)
                    Chenonceau:
In the short term, what you propose looks equitable. In the long term, it is a recipe for even more inequity. It's the Animal Farm principle. If you want data, look at the USA.
too chim.. sorrie, I can't response to that.. I didn't study so much to appreciate what you type here.. USA or animal farm.

                    Chenonceau:
HDB flats in the long term can undergo SERS. After 30 over years, the reinforced steel bars inside the HDB high rises rust and the government MUST take down the buildings and relocate people. Given enough monetary incentive, these sites can be sold to developers for condos. The landscape will change to reflect the money that is attracted to the area because of an ELITE SCHOOL MAGNET.
                    Good point.

So. HDB steel bars can rust, school steel bars cannot rust? Made of titanium ar? (juz a joke.. :siam: )

When the schools is due to be taken down, they can relocate it. And they will have to choose a good spot.. with even wealth distribution.. so.. what is the issue then?

As long as MOE or HDB consider the \"wealth landscape\" being a concern, it is within their means to correct it. \"ELITE SCHOOL MAGNET\" can move.. when the building are due for rebuild.

                    note: edited my broken englrish..

                      :celebrate:[/quote]Dear Lyddon,

Good try in trying to push the work to others to do. U must be part of 'mgmt' in your office.

However, as a fellow 'colleague' in the 'mgmt' league as well, do note that since this 'proposed priority change discussion - if any' does not affect me at all, i would say - go find another kah kia who will do your bidding.

In the meantime, guess vk2010 is correct - wasting too much ink here.

Since things are beneficial only to the 'connected' or the 'rich' - and so far - i seem to be on the right side of this fence - i shall just accept it - and too bad for fellow SGs then.

                      Yours Sincerely,
                      Vicki

                        Funz:

Problem here is people only want to keep their alumni status if they are from a popular school And people only want to do away with the alumni status if they are not from a popular school.

                        Hehe. Just my evening ramblings.
                        All these are personal preference..

That's why, when tackling this issue, we must throw \"personal preference\" Out of the windows!

                        And discuss based on merit..

Whether it is merit of welfare or merit of connection or merit of descent (if any)..
