My 6 year old dd is going to Seimpi at funan center. she just finished her gr 1 absrm, going to the next level we pay 200s$ per month. cos the teacher is a master teacher. reading all these n current financial crisis I am now thinking?????????????

Hi MMM, yes, agree you case is different because of his age. It is not easy to get a suitable teacher, don't be afraid to change if you think the teacher is not suitable. Experienced teachers do not generally mean their teaching suit your child. It all voice down to the correct teaching method for your child's ability and character. Like me, I made a big mistake, thinking the teacher was fine, never thought there are always better ones out there.Hi,
In my case, my son is P1 so I personally feel that it's her job to encourage the child during learning and not create another barrier. None of the earlier experienced teachers have done that before and in the end we saw progress. So it's not like he can't do it. Yesterday, he didn't even want to go for class so we decided to just let him rest till he starts with the new teacher. The last thing I want is for her to \"abuse\" him again.
I went to the school and feedback about it. There was another free slot with a teacher who is supposedly better/ more experience with children. I changed him to that. Will see how it goes.

Hi plum-cake, if your dd's skill is good enough, you can try to let her skip level for practical. But for theory, I recommend to take the exam every year. In this way, you can save a fair bit. You can try talking to the teacher about skipping level and see what's her recommendation. -

My girl also has been doing past year papers of every grades but her current teacher commented her theory is weak. I guess, the previous teacher did not put in much effort to teach her because she was not taking theory for every grade. This is just my personal encounter and hence I make that comment.

Actually, for theory, it is not necessary to take every grade every year. I know of one boy who self studied Gr5 theory exams and sat for the exam within 1 year. Doing past year exam questions is a must for the theory exams. Theory also helps in aural.

Why, ah? Unless the child loves theory, don't need to take every grade either. My elder boy took theory for 2yrs, taking grade 3 and then grade 5 and once he was done with grade 5, he happily stopped taking theory lessons for the timebeing. Not sure if he'd ever want to do any of the higher grades of theory. But we'll leave that up to him when he's much older. Not crucial.

Where should I start piano for age 3+ & 6+ student? Group or Individual?
Prefer to find somewhere near Bukit Merah/Redhill area. Don't mind to travel if have good piano teachers.
