      Hi.

No, the teacher will only do the corrections on Thursday and DS will bring it home for me to see.
Will keep your points in mind when checking.
Hopefully can sniff out some points...hopefully...
Yes, keywords in questions and keywors in answers for Science is the KEY
      to gain points.

        Hi All,

I am a FTWM, hence I do not hv the luxury of being consistent in terms of giving her assessment. I guess positive learning attitude is very important.

I started my P3 girl last year with tuition lesson (hearing advice from friends) but I realise it’s a wrong move. Her grades slipped, I took away majority of her tuition in mid yr and have a good heart to heart talk with her. She shared the tuition was too tiring and it became so routine that she lost interest in study…
        I felt lost…

I am pleased I made the right move, after removing the tuition she became happier and shown more interest in her work. She did very well for her final yr.

I guess other than the academic, we have to be sensitive at times and try to understand their feeling

Did you have a talk with her BEFORE you got tutors? It's good to talk to your child about it before you hire tutors. And by talking to them, you'll know whether they will be willing to go for class or not. Or, how else they think you can help if there's no tuition.

I know of kids who do well without tuition, after parents talk to them and weigh out pros & cons of having tuition. Some suggested only the weakest subject needed tuition. Some preferred to have all subjects, but they choose the time & day.

As long as your children are happy with tuition, it should not be a problem 🙂

            jennykhots,

Did you get a chance to check the exam papers ? Where are the marks loss ? You mentioned the school’s standard is high ? Meaning the papers were difficult ? I would analyse the marks loss and the cohort’s results before rushing out to enroll in tution or enrichment.

Both her P3 Maths and Science results have deteriorated. I am a stayed home mum and I consistently coaches her and even comes up with formula for her to remember her science notes, But the school standard is just getting too high! I felt so disheartened, my 100% efforts did not pay off . Should I put her to Mind Stretcher or Just Education or Mavis? (Tampines outlet. I am putting at Bedok reservoir area. Advice please!!

What school is yr daughter in?

I would say P3 science is still easy lor. I rembered my daughter score 70+/80+ in P3/P4.

I would actually suggest you getting a home tutor instead of those tuition centres cos they are more focus and tailor to yr child's need. My kids switch to home tuition since lower primary.

              Hopes that helps.

Which Science assessment books or guide books would you recommend for P3?

I went popular to look see look see but find it rather confusing, can’t tell which is better, in terms of keywords

My Kids was with MAVIS ( I seriously would not recommend it) ... quite sometime ago, but I get them to quit the classes. It SIMPLY HORRIBLE.

Turns out that my elder kid only master \"Dai Dee\" (poker) in the class. Instead of improving her weak subjects. The teachers just simply walk in and out constantly, while instructing them to do their own revision. While my younger kid in a different class, can't understand what the teacher is teaching. The class is simply too noisy, all the students just chit chatting while the teacher just sit at his desk.

(How I know??? I find it too hard to believe when my kids video it down in their handphone... That shows that there is are discipline enforced in classes... and that is how I find out)

I wasted my money and trusted the wrong person for introducing me below standard tuition center

I know what you mean...spent a lot of time in Popular looking for appropriate assessment books and guide books.
I've been recommended 2 guide books for Science, which can stretch to P6...however, you don't have to get both. Personally I prefer the second one. Do check it out.

                    1) Ultimate Science (EPH)
                    2) Science PSLE Revision Guide (2nd Edition) by Marshall Cavendish.

80 plus for lower primary not good enough. because results will keep dropping all the way till pri6. it is very hard to maintain.

I know of kids scoring 90+, but keep dropping all the way to P6. I also know of kids scoring 80+, but maintaining or improving over time to P6. So, what is impt in lower primary is not the marks. I hope parents can stop pressurizing kids must score 90+ for lower primary, but rather look and build foundation for the kids in lower primary. When the foundation is strong, the marks will come.
