In a single flower, anther and stigmas usually mature at different times. Why is this so?

Is this a primary school question? If it is then the science questions are becoming really scary.

Anyway this is a very interesting phenomenon that I have observed when I was pollinating my plants. I noticed that for those with male and female flower on the same plant, the male flowers will bloom first. For example, the first batch of flowers of a new adult cucumber plant are all male. As for plants with bisexual flowers i.e. with both male and female reproductive parts, the stigma will usually mature first.

I guess it is to discourage self-pollination. Probably self-pollination is like \"in-breeding\" and will produce weaker offspring.

I’m not sure if this has been asked before but hope someone can clarify.

          Is steam gas or liquid?

            Steam is gaseous state.

A common problem is to mistaken the \"white cloud\" escaping from the spout of a kettle of boiling water to be steam. The \"white cloud\" is not steam. It is tiny water droplets (in liquid state). The steam upon coming into contact with the colder air immediately condenses into tiny water droplets, appearing as \"white cloud.\"

Steam is colourless and is invisible.

Among the three types of food, soup, biscuit and hamburger, identify the best possible match of these three types of food to Food A, B and C.

Ans given was A is hamburger, B is biscuit and C is soup. Not sure why, can anyone enlighten us?

                  Everybody,

There is a question: What is fertilisation?
1)It is a fusion of male and female sex cells.
2)It is a union of male and female sex cells.
3)It is the transfer of pollen grains.
4)It is the process of attracting insects for pollination.

The question is, what is the difference between fusion and union?

                  Thanks!

Digestion is the breaking down of food into simpler substances so that it can be absorbed. Therefore, it is not true that food in liquid form (soup) will definitely be digested quicker than food in solid form. It is the type of soup that dictates the speed that it can be digested. For example, soup that is rich in curry, coconut milk, oil ... is very difficult to digest. If we drink too much chilli soup from those china steamboat, we might find the chilli oil appearing in our stool.

However, the question did not specify the type of soup so it is not fair to say that the soup will take a longer time to digest than the hamburger.

When fertilisation occurs, the nucleus of the male cell will join up with the nucleus of the female cell to become one single nucleus. So I guess fusion would mean combining 2 parts to become one entity whereby the original parts can no longer be differentiated or distinguished. On the other hand, maybe union means joining 2 parts together but we are still able to distinguish the original parts inside the new combined form.
