2009 GEP Screening And Selection
-
vlim:
Don't be confused, not all GEP kids belong to the top 1%. Just look at the yearly PSLE results, the top 1% of the primary sixes is not made up by this so called top 1% GEP kids.hai...after reading all the info I feel kind of sad for those 'real' gifted kids who are not able to squeeze in to the top 1% because of loosing out to those kids that are 'well prepared' for the selection tests..... So after all does this GEP still serve the purpose of catering and nurturing the real gifted kids ????
sad for those real gifted kids that can't get into gep and also sad for those kids that are trained for the selection tests but eventually find themselve struggling in gep....
You are right, the more fortunate ones managed to squeeze in whereas some 'real' ones are left behind.
What is this GEP all about when there's so much preparation given....just for fame???

I agree totally!
To those who are really good, well done!
To those who are more fortunate, good luck!
To those real good ones who are left behind, show them what you've got! -
Cluelessmama, Pecalis, Tony, Neko and Zann,
Thanks for the responses and sharing! At least, we now know that the GEP selection process is still sound enough to fish out candidates without any high end academic enrichments.
Once again, congratulations to you and your child!

Most welcome. Actually, I was a little sad and disturbed by all the \"dark talk\" about GEP. However when I thought more about the topic, and when I look at how I raise my kid and those around me, I begin to believe that the \"dark side\" of GEP could be only a very small percentage out of the whole big pie. Well, at least I feel better with this more positive thoughts.Cluelessmama, Pecalis, Tony, Neko and Zann,

Rushing off to another party now - DS2's. GEP classes - 2. Don't think they are differentiated but then again, I'm not very clued in.Hi
Not sure is correct to post here  ...Anyone can share how many GEP classes are there in ACS (P) which classes are labled as GEP and which classes are their \"TOP\" class?

What is the rationale behind doing this? To retain their own students? But MOE will eventually post them enough number of new GEP recruits anyway to fill up their GEP classes, right? Or, to attract more P1 registration.2centsworthy,
my rosyth friend told me the same thing. selected kids from her kid's class were singled out to go for training before GEP selection. -
ApronMama:
maybe these gep schools do it with the good intention. Just like MOE believe that gifted kids should be specially nurtured and stretch..so for high ability students , these gep schools and even non-gep schools give more enrichments to further nurture and stretch these students... :celebrate: and we as parents would be happy that the schools do something to nurture our high ability kids to their fullest...
