My DD is in P1 this year. From what I remember, she took some sort of test during orientation last year in their class while parents are briefed by principal and HOD in the hall. I think this is to allow their teacher know the ability of their student.
They have homework almost everyday but my DD usually can finish within an hour after dinner. They also need to go online to do some of their assignment/practice, especially during school holiday.
They have english and chinese spelling every week. We are quite surprised their chinese spelling is in han yu ping yin for the first 6mths. Now they start to have chinese words with some in han yu ping yin.
My DD also join ballet and it is FOC, no audition. They just did a performance at Victorial theatre recently during their school musical night. But you need to pay for the clothings, shoe, etc. The practice is once per week. The ballet teacher is engaged from outside but with 2 school teachers in-charge of admin.
From what we know, there is also modern dance which is FOC. No sure on violin and chinese dance.
Regarding HC group, you will get better update/info by their HOD during orientation.
For SVPA, yes we join but not active member. I know they organise celebration for teacher's day, children day, coffee session with principal, talks, etc. They will issue newsletter through school for these activities, asking volunteer and donation. So far we opt for volunteer twice but they never contact us. I guess they have more than sufficient volunteers
For student care centre, there is one diagonally opposite the school main gate, in front of a basket ball court which is on ground floor. There is another one opposite the school side gate which is underground. I guess the advantage is they are less than 5mins walk to school.
Hope these help

Where did you hear that from ?! I seriously doubt ANY school in Singapore dare to do that…could it be a mis-quote that it was a child with learning disabilty and transferred to special schools ?
Me too, never heard of such a case in SV or any other school near my place. I agree with cluelessmama that in general SV has caring and hardworking teachers. Even the admin staff are generally polite and handle queries well. -
i heard it from some parents , it also a hearsay. i called the school and ask them, and the office lady told me it not for her to comments , the form teacher will be in a better position to comments.

i dont think such things happened in SV.
So far, from the Principal’s speech earlier this year, she said something about not leaving a child behind.
Btw, anyone has pictures for the annual prize giving day and the unofficial prize day? can share? -

Thanks shopzz! I'm sure this info will come in very handy for new parents in SV. -
zyberk, I have some photos but may I ask what is it you wish to see/know ? I do not want to post photos of children on a public internet forum.
shopzz and other new parents, the test during orientation is not used by banding in P1 as you would have notified of your child’s class and house colour with the orientation letter. P1 class is allocated randomly. The test is likely used to shift out children without preschool education or with possible learning challenges. -

Sure I understand.zyberk, I have some photos but may I ask what is it you wish to see/know ? I do not want to post photos of children on a public internet forum.
My DD was one of the recipient on that night and was wondering if someone captures a better angle of her. Still waiting for the school to post the photos on its website.
Thanks anyway.
