      Hi

      Is there any good Chinese speech and drama programme for 3-4 yrs olds? Has anyone sent their kids to Julia Gabriel or Crestar for such a programme? Any feedback or recommendations? Thanks.

      Hi,

      Am sending my gal to CS Montessori at Bukit Timah Plaza. It is a twice-weekly programme. On Mondays, its speech and drama, with comprehension and a little bit of writing. On Thursday its visual arts. I tot the fees was very ex tho. Works out to $35 a lesson, $280 a month. But my gal seems to enjoy it and I think its quite effective.

        Just want to share that there is this S&D teacher by the name of Mdm Koh in Han Language at Katong. She comes highlighly recommended by my kids’ school teachers in terms of her proven track record and her years of experience in this area. Which I was told that is better that Hokkien Assoc classes. But I think the class is only for P1 onwards and not alot of slot as Mdm Koh is a retiree.

        Fees is pretty reasonable at $200 per term.

        I have not try it but the kids are starting in term 3 this yr. I let them join to :
        * build general confidence
        * speak and pronounce properly that will eventually help in their oral and written aspect

                The kids and I attended Mdm Koh’s S&D class yesterday. She invited me to sit through. I enjoyed it tremendously and can see the kids enjoying themselves too. Those that have gone through training with her for 6 months, I can see an obvious difference in their pronunciation and confidence.

                Some of the things she did include :
                1) Getting the kid to stand infront of the class to recite a poem, etc… taking note of their voice projection, pronounciation, etc.c…
                2) Playing games that seeked to enhance the kids reaction. Some are basic games that we played in school days eg. Da Feng chui
                3) Playing games that seek to get the kids to show their creativity rather than copying their friends. Her motto is the kids should have their own idea and creativity.

                Mdm Koh used to be a chinese teacher. She taught in MBS for 10 + yrs. She is in the retirement stage so she only has ltd classes and she only does primary level. Despite her age, she is pretty active. Can run around alittle in class with the kids and do certain physical actions.

                There are some kids that can be mischevious and she discipline them like a grandma.

                She come highly recommended from my dd’s teacher where Mdm Koh’s teaching does show results as compared to the rest. Also, she has groomed national talents in this area.

                      Hi,

                      You might want to call Han Language at Fu Lu Shou/ Katong to find out more. We were asked to put in the application by last friday so I am not sure if this is still open. There was more than enough kids to start the class.

                      Mdm Koh don’t have trial class. But we attended the her students’ performance 2 weekends ago and it was awesome. I put my older kids in her class but I’ve never seen them perform as they are only with her for 6 months. I invited a friend who is putting her son through her class next year and the 1st question she asked me was "Is the teacher from china??? or the kids from china???". That’s because the level of spoken mandarin is just that during the performance. We cannot imagine Sporean kids having that ability to perform like that. I was so inspired after the performance and I look forward to put my kids through that. It’s like those who started in p1 and P4 now put up such a great show too.
